      becoming lucid

so i have been learning about lucid dreaming for about 2 months now and ive actually had a decent amount of sucess, i usually remember 3-4 dreams per night now and i remember alot of information in the dream, i do however have a problem.

In almost 2 months i have become lucid about 5 or 6 times, the thing is though, everytime i have become lucid, it is NOT because of dream signs or reality checks, it is simply because i have just realised im dreaming, for example, i have just been walking down a road and realised im dreaming, i didnt even have to perform a reality check i just knew 100% that i was dreaming then i started to fly around

it seems to me that by just thinking about lucid dreaming and writing down my dreams has helpled me to become lucid.

why is this happening? why am i not recognising my dream signs then becoming lucid?

Reality Checks and Dream Signs are tools to make you realize you're dreaming. You don't have to rely just on them. You may notice something unusual, such light, or plp behavior. It will make you ask yourself: "Is it real?" and become lucid. Still DILD.

In my opinion, this is what is supposed to happen. When you go through and identify dream signs, you are familiarizing yourself with your dreams. You are learning the specifics of how your dreams work. When you reality check, you are learning how reality works. Performing a RC every time you see a dream sign draws attention to the differences between the two states. It makes you think about it.

Eventually, you should be so familiar with your dreams as compared to reality, that you can instantly recognize them based on feeling, alone. The dream signs and reality checks are just exercises to program your mind. Our dreams are working from a level we can't influence directly. Things won't happen the way you expect them to. The best we can do is trick ourselves, like this.

Well that depends , how much attention are you paying when doing the reality checks? you need to actually focus when doing these otherwise its a diminished exercise.
