Can you gain real-life expierience with LDing?

Hey guys, just a quick question.

Recently I took a break from LDing because it broke my sleep patterns/ left me feeling like a zombie in the morning. I still haven't reverted back to my old patterns despite taking the break. :p

Anyways, my question is: Can you gain expirience in the Lucid Dream world? I'm a magician and I like to stay sharp, so I think it would be cool if I could continue to practice in my dreams.

Actually, this is a pretty common question. I remember a little while back, someone claimed they had trained themselves for a sport of some kind...

I'm afraid I don't have the knowledge to delve to deeply into the actual neuroscience regarding this, though I do suggest you try. There are many things not directly related to the performing arts that could help you. Off the top of my head, confidence and inspiration might be of great use.

Magicians, I imagine, could find some very interesting ideas for new routines.

As far as practice goes, I'm not entirely sure. I don't doubt you could make progress, but I feel this is something much too unique to the individual for me to say.

Try it out for a little while, and see what you find. You might be surprised!

A simple factual answer is, yes. Just as you athletes, businessmen, etc...mentally rehearse their talents and skills in their mind (Visualization), the same (but at a higher level) can be said about Lucid Dreaming, wonderful question.

P.s. flying in your lucid dreaming won't grow you physical wings though.

I see... Well, if I can become lucid again I'll have to try it.

I heard that when you have a normal sleep your brain processes complex algorithims. When you wake up your reflexes and understanding/ concentration gets higher. Does lucid dreaming affect this?

Yeah, in Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge, it says that many people use lucid dreaming to gain real-life expierience. It lists several examples. Some people use it to train for sports or other competitions. Others use it to act out things you might do during the day, such as a business presentation.

That was a good question, by the way.

Definitely, don't worry, your magician will level up in no time.

But yeah, to your brain, there is no difference between dreaming a perception and action, and doing the waking perception and action, so the training is all the same (maybe better as you are more creative, and it helps with mental blocks)
