      Concerning sleep cycles

Ok ... I went to bed at 9 pm and awoke at 3:15 am which would constitute just over four 90 minute sleep cycles. When I went back to sleep however, I had a huge vivid dream. I then woke up at 3:30 am ... just 10 minutes later!

My question is this: If you go to sleep and pass through all the deep sleep (alpha, delta waves ect.) into REM sleep... will you return right back into REM if you awake from it for a few minutes?

The way that I understand it, once you've had enough sleep to recharge and repair your mind and body, most of the rest of your sleep is spent in REM sleep. I believe that's why WBTB and WILD are such successful methods for so many people.

REM is what "recharges and repairs your mind and body".

      Uh, no.

      Check here: http://www.sleepdoctor.com/stages.htm

      In particular:

Contrary to popular belief, it is delta sleep that is the \"deepest\" stage of sleep (not REM) and the most restorative. It is delta sleep that a sleep-deprived person's brain craves the first and foremost. In children, delta sleep can occupy up to 40% of all sleep time and this is what makes children unwakeable or \"dead asleep\" during most of the night.[/b]

Yea N-REM sleep is pretty much the physical restorer and REM is the thing where if you don't get it, you feel very drowsy and probably irratiable.

REM is the only cycle necessary to have, you don't need N-REM sleep as Polphasic sleep cycles show (only taking 30 min naps every hour or so during the day.)

Though N-REM is still important in that it is a big restorer of vitamins that are needed and just general health.
