      Reading in Dreams

It was once said to me that you can not read in dreams. Well, last night I had a dream and I read a word. It was a Japanese name, outrageously long and I read it twice, both times were the same way, and I remember reading it exactly how it was spelled. Has anyone else read in their dreams? Is it a proven fact that you can not read? Because I know I did.

Was it a lucid dream or a non-lucid? I find that I can read very well in non-lucid dreams, but in lucid dreams, stuff keeps changing when I look away, also characters distort for me.

      It was a non-lucid dream.

I can read fine in lucids. Once I even started reading a book on how to fly. Then I realized I was wasting time.

Maybe you are dreaming right now. Thus I suggest you do a reality check .

Life is but a big dream.

I've had three dreams in which I tried to read something, and two of them were fairly succesful. In one where I wasn't lucid, I was reading a letter from one of my friends, who talked about lucid dreaming. I didn't have much trouble reading at all. The other two times were lucid. In one, I looked at my watch and tried to read that, and it was going completely crazy, and I couldn't read a thing. In the other, I was reading a note, and though I could read, it changed every time I looked away.

So yes, its quite possible to read in dreams. It's not always going to make sense, or stay the same, but it is possible. I think that reading in non-lucids may be different because we don't bother to look away and look back again, so we think the text is more stable.
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

I was lucid and I was reading my favorite fantasy series. I read a book I was read. I got farther than I was and the words weren't even close to what the real book was.

Ive read in lucid dremas beofre. I dont know why people say they can't. Its funny to read a magazine and see whats it saying and realzie since your brain is creating all of this, you all reayd know everything you are reading.

It is perfectly possible to read in a dream, lucid or not, but it's generally harder to read in a lucid one. In a non-lucid dream, it's much more your brain just making up what you think yoiu're reading, rather than you actually seeing it. In a lucid dream however, you really expect to see these words that you're reading, so you notice that they get messed up, especially if you try to read the same thing mroe than once.

I like that Waldgeist!!! The only thing though is that in my expirences the text or numbers keep changing. One reason I use a clock for a reality check.

I remember hearing someone tell me that you cannot say your name outloud in a lucid. The next time I became lucid I yeld my name, quickly throwing that mythe aside.
So does it come down to the fact that most of us have been taught to believe we cannot do certain things in dreams?

Albiet that may be a very good proposition to why we think we cannot do certain things, I too feel that the level of lucidity and your conscious mind play a role in this.
From what I understand Writing, reading, playing chess, or actions that use the left hemishpere of your brian, that is primarley your conscious mind, is one of the major contibutors to this obstacle.

But had I never read about this. Would it be an obstacle?
It does seem pretty prevelant throughout the Forum. And the people who can could very well have a higher and more efficiant means of communication between their sunconscious to their conscious than I do.
