Interrupted Sleep more refreshing than Continuous 6-8hr

I've found that when I wake up 2 or 3 times in the middle of the night, I'd feel much more refreshed in the morning and can remember several dreams. This seems to go against conventional wisdom in that continuous sleep is better than interrupted sleep. Does setting your alarm to wake you up at night a few times increase the percentage of REM sleep? (I suspect that I might not be getting enough REM when I wake up after 8 hours of continuous sleep feeling dead tired and not remembering any dreams.)

:yumdumdoodledum: :yumdumdoodledum: Welcome rogue_noir! :yumdumdoodledum: :yumdumdoodledum:

I don't think setting the clock will increase REM significantly. It does, however, help in dream recall.
Personally, I wake up anyway after one or two dreams anyway.

      Hey! Welcome!

I know exactly what your saying, i feel more refreshed if i wake up a few times in the night then sleeping all the way through.

But, i think this can be explained: If I wake up during the night, i suppose it is out of the fact that i am not tired, and dont need rest in the first place, but when i sleep all the way through, i am in fact tired and need my rest!

maybe its different for you, but sometimes when im really tired and wake up a few times in the night, i do feel more refreshed-its strange, but perhaps your right!

I know I must sound opinionated, maybe biased and quite possibly jaded. But sooner than later they’ll be throwing quarters to you on stage.[/b]

      Welcome To DreamViews

I've found that lucid experiences, in addition to waking up 20 times in the night, and remembering about 4 dreams upon wakening, that I wake up more refreshed then ever. Not tired. I didn't think it could be done... but I wake up before my alarm clock.
