      Reading in Dreams

There have been many times that I've used reading as tool to let myself know that I am dreaming. I'm pretty sure I am able to read a couple of sentences, but I think thats it. Also I use reading as a dream sign because if I re-read the sentence it will most likely say something different.
I was wondering if anyone has done anything like sit down and succesfully read a novel in a dream or LD. Maybe not that extreme, but something more than a couple of sentences or using it as a dream sign.

I'm pretty terrible at recognizing dreamsigns so far... whenever I read in dreams it seems like I either don't comprehend it or don't seem to care what I'm reading... but I never realize I'm dreaming. I hope this will get better with time and effort.

No, you're right. The words tend to wiggle around the page. I'm surprised you were able to read anything at all.

The whole idea of words is strange in dreams. For instance, it is difficult to recite even the most familiar Mantra or Prayer in a dream, as it will gravitate toward some kind of poetic modification. Then there is the phenomena of the Archetypical Prophetess and Poetress -- a young Oracle of a Woman who can speak on and on in the most bazaar and yet amazing poetry, which at first sounds like nothing more than clever word play until you realize that the concepts described are quite jumping through some hoops themselves.

Mostly dreams are involved with images, but one time when I was fighting off the experience of waking up after a long lucid dream, I was able to slow the process down enough so that I noticed that the Dream Scene of Images faded into what became a Narrative Description of the Dream Scene into descriptive words. The 'Movie' of the Dream as it rose up into Wakefulness became a Screen Play of words.

So just as Images are ever changing within a Dream, so do the Words.

I am thinking of one particular LD where I did read one or two sentences from a book. I was testing to see if it was possible to read, so I was really willing for it to happen. I'll have to read into the Archetypical Prophetess, it sounds interesting.
I want to try and play the piano in an LD to see if I can accurately recreate the sounds, since I am fairly familiar with it. I kind of doubt it will work, but it will be very interesting to try it I think.

I'm able to read and re-read in lucid and non-lucid dreams. The most I've ever read in a dream was when I unknowingly fell asleep at the computer. Before I fell asleep I was chatting to people in msn and the dream played out that I was still chatting in msn, this went on for about 5 or 10 minutes.

I've never tried playing a piano in a dream but I can create unique opera and industrial sounding music. If you know what it sounds like you should have no problem recreating the sound in a dream.

By the way, like your music.

I can read in dreams. I've never not been able to.

Yeah, it's just that I've heard on occasion that reading is supposed to have a certain reservation of your brain which is not associated with dreaming. Thats probably an outdated notion. I know it's not impossible to envision words and understand their meanings in dreams, so maybe it's just a lot harder to do when dreaming.
