Dear Ajax,
The problem with very long dreams is that they need to come out of a Creative Process. We must assume that our Higher Dream Self is already creating Dream Scenarios at its optimum capacity.
Now, we always hear people speaking endlessly that we only use only 10% of our brain's capacity. That is all nonsense! Our brains are doing the best they can.
What I have noticed about Dreaming is that it seems to be a creative process. One can ask one's Higher Dream Mind for a particular kind of Dream in order to address a certain Spiritual Issue or Special Concern, and it will come... but not immediately. What it seems like is that the Dream must first be written... screenplayed. and then there will be small dreams in prelude to the Main Dream, as the dream writer's seem to get comfortable with the Theme.
so, anyway, if you really want a dream which will seem to take hours, then realize that it will take quite awhile for your Higher Mind to bring such a dream through Production. You might have to focus on that goal for several weeks, or even several months, for, afterall, although you want this Long Dream, you will still want nightly dreams too, won't you? This Long Dream must come as an Extra -- something that your Higher Mental Reserves would have to work on as a Special Project.
And, yes, we do have certain extra resources, though they are not Infinite. I once had a Dream Vision of the Workings of my Higher Dream Mind -- it was symbolized by what looked like a Big Smoky News Room full of writers clicking away on old manual typewriters... well, most were typing away, but there were some chatting with each other, and some with their feet up on their desks just thinking about what to do next. There were about 30, over all. So, yes, we do have resources. and they can deliver a very good product, but we still need to respect their Process.
Oh, as a for instance of the phenomena of which you speak... the most famous incidence of just that sort of thing was with the Prophet Mohamed of whom it was said that as his Dream of Heaven began he accidentally knocked over his night-stands picture of water. Subsequently he had his Vision of Heaven .... rendering enough material for quite an Epic Poem... much of the body of the Koran sourced out of this Dream Vision. Yet he awoke soon enough to catch the Pitcher before half the water had spilled out.
Then, it may not have been an Ordinary Dream. Sometimes what happens is that Other Souls give us what is actually a Memory Implant. This is why many people believe in Reincarnation... you see, sometimes Souls who feel a certain sympathy and resonance with us will wish to share their Life Experiences with us and so they will present to us a memory package of their Life. Of course, this Memory will all be in the 'first person' -- all of the experiences will be centered around an Ego -- an experiencer that will think of itself as "I" and "me". In re-experiencing such memories, given to us by other souls, it is easy enough to 'identify' with the "I" and "me" of such an experience. But we should not be confused. Being given a Memory does not make that Soul our own. Yes, there are sympathies and resonances or these Souls would not have given us their Gifts, but if we are attentive, we would certainly notice differences in the choices made. If we notice that a Previous Life Memory is somehow more Brave, Virtuous, or Noble than we are now, that should be our first hint.
So, if a Dream seems too long, we must consider whether it is our own dream, or the Dream of a Higher Being that was simply given to us for Play Back -- a Memory Implant.
