If you act with any kind of aggression usually DCs will fight back, unless you control them.

That is what your subconscious knows should happen if you were to do that to someone.
It always follows the rules, even if it follows them in ways that are metaphorical, and don't make any sense to the conscious stimulus addicted part of you.

This probably happened because this is what you'd expect to happen. You can combat DCs reacting like this by convincing yourself that they'll react differently. Or just spawn a huge dragon to fight by your side.

Maybe try a less aggresive way of sharing your excitement,
like running up and hugging a DC instead.

Dreams tend to act out what we've been "programmed" to expect in situations. We don't always attempt to have TOTAL conscious control of a dream, so while you could have consciously expected the DC to stop the attack (thus making it so), subconsciously, your expectations could have been the reaction you initially received.
