      Spontaneous Lucid Dreams?

Sorry if this seems a silly thread guys but i'm completely new to lucid dreaming..

So i'm asleep and all of a sudden i find myself lying on the floor in my house with some random book in front of me. Out of the blue i get this thought "i wonder if this is a dream?" so i decide to find out. I managed to stretch the book right out and of course from that came to the conclusion i was dreaming.

I went outside and i was so amazed at how realistic the environment was, everything from the feel of the bitter cold air on my skin to the distant sounds of cars was as real as if i stepped outside my own house.

I decided to give flying a go which was a lot harder than i thought but i found pointing in the direction i wanted to go stopped me drifting about so much..

I did lots of other stuff but i won't post that here (belongs in the dream journal), i woke up thinking i'd had the most amazing lucid dream but then later in the day some doubts started to cross my mind as to how lucid it was..

I mean can you just become lucid without using any techniques? suddenly in a dream just think 'hang on i wonder if i'm dreaming?'... I am almost deadly sure i was conscious and thinking in terms of wow this is a realistic dream (eg: i was making the environment react not the other way around)..

I just wondered what you guys thought, obviously being a newcomer i'm very excited by the prospect of having such a vivid lucid dream just out of the blue like that with no training but never having a real lucid dream before i've got no way to compare and eliminate the doubts..

      Thanks for your time, Dan.

Congrats on the LD, those super vivd ones never get old

What you had is known as a DILD. Perhaps you had it because you've had LDing on your mind lately since joining the site. Either way, keeping a dream journal and continuing to do RCs throughout the day will allow you to have them more consistently.

Naturals are defined as people who can DILD consistently without having practiced any techniques, though if you haven't been having LDs for a long time I wouldn't classify you as one of those people. I think everyone becomes lucid every once in a while "spontaneously." With practice anyone can get to the point where they have LDs on a consistent basis, though.

It's natural to become lucid without the aid of anything really other than just plain logic. It worked for me a handfull of times (in my most normal dreams ever). It's kinda sad that I don't use plain simple logic in my most obscure and abstract dreams, but I do in my dreams that feel as normal as my waking life.
