      Valerian = Zero Dream Recall

I just took some valerian last night. It made me sleepy and relaxed.

But, there is a small problem: I have absolutely zero dream recall from last night. Don't remember anything. NOTHING. I always remember all my dreams and this morning when I went to write in my dream journal, I realized that I couldn't remember anything. It really freaked me out. I feel so powerless. It's like not being able to remember what I did yesterday.

Is it just me or has anybody else had this experience with valerian?

I had the opposite. Very vivid dreams with increased recall.

      But maybe I'm weird.

Oh Great! And I just went out and bought some of the stuff.

I did take some last night and had some dream activity.

The 'silver lining' in not having any dream recall is that you may have been in a very Universal, very ineffable place. I had a dream in which I was vortexed up into Heaven only to remember coming out the other side. Another time I had a dream in which I had a conference with a Guru and he told me I would forget the entire dream. I woke up without any dream recall, but with a very intense feeling of energy and knew something had happened and so I didn't let it go until I remembered enough about the dream, except every single word of our conference.

so don't give up on the Valerian quite yet. maybe the idea of taking it with a Vitamin B component makes sense in that the Vitamin B acts as a mild stimulant.

hmm, what's this about being in a 'Universal place' when you don't have recall? Is that like some kind of higher plane???
there's a lot of times i have no recall whatsoever, but when i open my eyes, i know damned fine that i've been 'somewhere' but can't remember one single little detail! All i have is a sensation of some sort.
      It's very frustrating...

Just this morning, I was certain that I should be able to remember my dreams, but I just couldnt. Completely blank. Not a single memory.

I was trying everything, racing through everyday thaughts to see if one of them triggered a memory. Usually, if I remember a dream I can sort of remember it on wakening.

After about 10 minutes, I triggered something and 2 dreams rushed into my memory at the same time, and they were pretty vivid.

Maybe some nights are just harder for recall. Might be something you ate or did, or how well you slept.

I feel that valerian has improved my dream recall, and possibly has increased the frequency of my LDs, without me even really trying. But I suppose everyone is different -- YMMV and all that.

One word of warning though -- since taking the valerian, I've had two dreams that were closer to nightmares than anything I've had since I was very young. One of them was extremely realistic and creepy, and left me with an uneasy feeling for quite some time after waking up (it involved huge bees).

I very very rarely have nightmares, and after being OFF the valerian for half a week (which didnt give me nightmares), I had a night full of terrors. IMO, nightmares are pretty random and depend on a lot of things.

Since were on the topic of nightmares, I have to say that I acually enjoy nightmares. After I wake up and realize it was only a dream, I feel an appreciation for my life that I didn't have before. I sometimes see nightmares as a blessing rather than a negative situation.

Bryan, I sort of feel the same. Course you normally wake up tired .

They boost my recall 200% and have the same effect as a chilli pepper. Once you are over the bad (but harmless) experience, you feel... enlightened.

Then only problem I get is if it wakes me in the night. Waking in the morning is fine, but some of my night terrors are so dreadful that I am reluctant to go back to sleep.

      Great stuff.
