Have u ever known that u were dreaming but not able to lucid

this is really hard to explain, but the other night i was having a very strange dream, so strange that i knew i was dreaming so in the dream i thought to myself, "this cant be real, oh my god, i must be dreaming, now i can lucid dream!!" so i decided i wanted to lucid dream about me flying, so i tried to fly, but i was not able to! i was able to float a few feet off the ground, then i feel right back down! then in the dream, i thought to myself: "this must be reality, or i would be able to fly." but it really wasnt reality!!

by the way, im new here and have never lucid dreamed before, but have been trying very hard!!

      Hi Franz,

Welcome to Dreamviews. Thats pretty interesting it seems you've maintained what we like to refer to as Low Level lucidity. Sometimes within the dream state your conscious mind still kinda reverts back to what should be reality even though its dormant in your sleeping state. Try concentrating more on Flying and Visualize yourself in the air and your results should be alot more positive the next time you take flight. But remember you gotta believe truely that none of this is real and take advantage of that thought and let that be your motivation. Keep trying flying is hard for everyone the first time around, because its so unbelieveable the fact that you are aware that you are dreaming. Keep up the good work and good luck!

I've had this happen to me a lot in my years of lucid dreaming. It's weird and when I wake up I don't know why I didn't become lucid. I'll be in a dream and something happens to make me realize I'm dreaming but I'll just go along with the dream instead of going along with the lucid dream. I think it happens more when I'm in a dream with a lot going on in it or a dream that I wanted to know the ending so I don't want my consciousness to ruin it. The first time I became lucid as an adult ( I used to LD as a child but forgot about it during my teen years) it was full blown, as in I became super conscious and excited as soon as I realized I was dreaming and then woke up into sleep paralysis with astral vibrations running through my body mainly more concentrated in my third eye area. I think sometimes when I become lucid when I'm really tired I don't feel like going with the lucidity and let the dream take over.

Just last week, I randomly started yelling in my dream 'I'm dreaming, I dont need to be doing this!' over and over, but didnt get control. I just kept walking to where I was going.

      Frustrating.

Welcome back ShadowNightWing!!! Long time no see!!!!

Yes, that was a lucid dream. Just because you didn't have any control did not cancel that fact. Congrats, control will come with experience and practice!

This is the same for me. This is why when I become lucid the first thing I do is try to get away and find my own space to try and get things stabilized before I venture back to engage in the dreamscape or meet dream characters.

SL suggests there is a lucid and non-lucid dream context simultaneously fighting for control of your mind. When you get caught up with other things in the dream you lose control and may slip back into a normal dream.

Yes, that's happened to me many times. I can sense I'm awake, but I'm not deliberately making decisions in the dream....weird

This is the perfect reason why One must perfrom more than one reality check. If one thing doesnt work, just tyr a different reality check just to doubble check. Also, durring the day, you coudl tyr mixing up different reality tests, so in yoru dreams you will have a bunch to choose from.

Try holding your nose, and brethere thorugh it. IN a dream you can do it. Try to jump up and fly, Try to immigne somehting that you wnat to have in your pocket, and reach in, and if tis there, you are dremaing... there are a bunch. You can even make up yoru own.

A few more possible RCs: Try looking at a (digital) clock several times in a row. The time it shows should be greatly different in different times. Try to push your finger through your palm or a wall. I a dream it should work. Try to recall what you did earlier. In waking life you will most likely have a clear memory of things you did, but in dream it won't be so good. Try to figure out which RCs work best for you, and use those. Personally I find the breathing through your nose test really efficient as it has never failed me.
