Why is there a Hierarchy here.

Aren't we all on the same path but just on different levels of Progression. Why should I feel the need to aspire to a 'Lucid Dream God'.

      You shouldn't.

I suppose i could say aspire to be what you are comfortable with...and then don't complain when you think it's not enough...

      Hierarchy? Lucid Dream God?

      Titles are really meaningless.

I love this and try to live by the following credo:

Do not wish to be anything but what you are, and try to be that perfectly.

      hey, that's a good point.
there's no point in trying to change what you are already meant to be...you can change elements of yourself, but not yourself completely.

haha, the only reason we have these titles is so people know how advance we are in lucid dremaing. This way we can more eisly help one another. If a lucid dremaing god see a lucid student, he will knwo that they still need hlep so he will offer it. Dont get upset, the titles are relaly meaningless in terms of a social status here.

Well............The first sight of Reverend Moon and I will be off like a Shot. I really don't see the point of "ONEUPMANSHIP". (Not in this game anyway). It's like saying One persons Lucid is better than anothers.

Lucidity is all about individuality. no one person's lucid is better than any other's. Some people are more skilled at inducing it and have them more often.
Some people have them rarely, but when they do have them, they might be more vivid or more detailed than someone who has them all the time.
So now who has the more skill?
The Once a Night Lucid Dreamer, or the Once in a Blue Moon person?

I thought they were only an indicator of who has more time on their hands to visit and post messages... not anything to do with "lucid skill" or anything.

At least it says "lucid ability" and " Please attempt to rate your lucid ability using the provided levels; try to be honest here because there's nothing to gain by lying. As your ability increases you can change your level in your profile".

So, I think it might have something to do with your lucid dreaming skills

evangel, you were right. Titles used to be tied to how many posts a member made. However, the number of posts in no way is an indication of how skilled or knowledeable a person is at lucid dreaming.

Titles are up to the member to decide. One of my favorite titles is: "Lucid Student"

Is that sarcasm? or a question. It's been that way for over six months now.

I guess the titles seem pretty subjective to me since there is no real system or gage... besides I would never consider myself a "guru," "god," "expert" "master" etc. etc. They sound kind of presumptuous to me. I like "knight" because it is neutral but still sounds cool .

Believe me, some of the rarest posters on here are the best lucid dreamers I've talked to. And I suspect some are post whores who don't really have LD'ing as much of a priority.

I don't see how our hierarchy should be bothersome, haha...it's just a forum, gee!! Though it feels nice to belong to something as well.

Hmm I guess thats why I was still a lucid beginner even with over a 1000 posts heh. Never noticed that before, though I am sure there was a post about it. I just changed it to student. I am an expert after all. I noticed you could make up your own too.

      WHAT? How dare you!

You're just a lowly "lucid beginner" AirRick... You must first ask permission of a Lucid guru or above to post on this thread! And if you post like that again you will be demoted to "non-lucid"

      hey,

there have been lots of good replies already, but i might as well throw in my bit since i introduced that system. first off, as you know, the lucid rank now has nothing to do with post count; originally it was just a reflection of the number of posts by the user, which obviously had no real bearing on just where the user's abilities really stood.

now, users are welcome to decide for themselves where they stand, and are free to increment their skill level here to match their actual ability. thus, as they get better they can bring their skill up; or, if they stop practicing for a while, they can bring it back down. most importantly, they can set a goal for themselves, and then attempt to attain that level. this also allows people who are quite experienced at lucid dreaming to set their level higher upon immediately joining, and the (honest few) who have 1000+ posts to keep their level low if their abilities are still developing. (I realize this system is immediately open to dishonesty, but those users are only cheating themselves...those who abuse this reap nothing of the benefits that were intended by its introduction. i didn't think it would be fair to deprive all users of this due to the few that would abuse it.)

the names of the actual skill levels themselves are completely irrelevant (and a few of them are just silly, but they're commonly used on other forums so i went with them). you could instead think of them as level 1, level 2, level 3, etc. it's most important to note, though, that one person's level 3 by no means necessarily indicates the same skill level as another person's level 3. this program was introduced for users' personal benefit, but also to allow users to have a little fun with their profiles, while also setting personal goals. let me reiterate that it exists for personal benefit; we have never held a 'lucid competition' and we never will.

since, as stated, one person's level 3 is not the same as another person's level 3, this isn't really a hierarchy in the conventional sense. it just allows users to adjust their personal levels, giving them a tangible reward for their efforts (which can actually turn out to be pretty important). i know i'm patting myself on the back, but personally i think it's a fantastic system (and pretty unique, too, because i had to code it myself). if you don't agree, well then at least you can probably agree it's better than the post count determining one's lucid ability.
