when you go to sleep there are different stages is it possible to always have only one stage such as rem? cause i heard that when you are i rem you are physicaly paralized. i dont move at all does this mean im in rem all the time?

I don't think it is possible for a healthy brain to experience continous REM. You have to experience theta and delta in order to replenish other chemicals in the brain.

I used to be a sound sleeper like you. My son is that way also. Never moves.

Yeah-the brain would get very exhausted if it expirienced continuous REM during the night...

It would be cool if 'they' came out with a drug to make that possible though-without exhaustion, ect.

I don't think that would be very healthy for you at all. Like seeker said you need delta and theta to refresh your chemicals in your brain. Scientist have woken people up just before they went into a certen stage for a couple of nights. And the people acted very unhealthy and sometimes got sick. So I would say you need all the stages of sleep. Plus who knows how that could mess up you Lucid Dreaming.

I ussually don't move at all during my sleep and have never waken up in a different place then my bed before. (ok maybe when i was younger i fell off the bunk bed once or twice...) It must differ with each person.

ok maybe im not one-hundred percent sure but i've fallen asleep before while my friends are still awake and they say that i dont move much except to shift weight off an arm or something. Also, im a very light sleeper so i think that if i ever drastically moved like fall off my bed or sleep walk i'd wake up.

Thats happened to me a couple times, its freaky especially when you wake up, your like..."wtf?"

also, when you wake up in an unfamiliar place, for the first few seconds of consciousness, its really strange when you dont know where you are.

Lowercase that was my exact reation as well when I woke up. I tried to recall anything that happened that night but I couldn't and later I dismissed it.

I've also gotten that feeling of confusion when waking up. It lasts for a couple of seconds, but it is scary. I sometimes get this in school. I'll be walking to my next class and then all of sudden I forget where I'm going and what class it is that Im supposed to be at. I have to stop for a couple of seconds to remember where I'm going.

I woke up lying the wrong way in my bed once too....
It scared the fuck out of me, probably because my feet where on the pillow, and my head was under my blanket, which covered my entire body (except for my feet). I was laid there as normal, but then in the wrong direction =/

      Sleepwalking.

There is a natural occuring chemical in the head that prevents us from acting out our dreams, or moving about, possibly inflicting damage upon ourselfs unconsciously. The chemical basically paralyses us during REM.
Sleepwalking may be described as an imbalance, partial abscence or disorder of this chemical (i dont know what its called ).

Im also not sure what period of sleep we 'sleepwalk' in...who knows that?

Sleepwalking is a sleep disorder effecting an estimated 10 percent of all humans at least once in their lives (1). This widespread phenomenon varies in its intensity and frequency. While most sleepwalking incidents are short and not dangerous, some can involve self-injury and are much more dangerous for the sleeper. Also, most interestingly, the disorder seems to stem from many different sources, not from one definable cause such as a chemical imbalance. While it is predominantly pre-adolescents who suffer from somnambulism, it is also observed in adults, although the frequency and severity of incidents increase with age. The source of the disorder was once thought to be entirely psychological and an extension of dreaming. It is now understood to be a complex combination of one or more factors, such as psychological and physiological factors as well as chemical interference (such as alcohol and drug abuse) (3). The source of the sleepwalking behavior varies according to age with the younger sufferers having more physiological problems which they grow out of, while older somnambulists, stress and substance abuse play a larger role. *
