I think I went into sp the other night, so I hadn't been in rem all day, I kind of had like half dreams, they weren't realy dreams, just a chain of thought that kind of controls itself. And visualizations with it. |

Well last night I lied down and got into my first calm Sleep paralasis, it was so peacefull and felt nice, for some reason it wouldn't break even thoo I did act non-asleep (Breathing randomly and such) My mind was clear and I could visualise easily and all(Not very vivid thoo) so I stayed there lying down in Sleep paralasis but nothing was happening. So I'm curious, is anything supposed to happen when in sleep paralasis right as you go to bed and not after 4 hours of sleep? |

All that sleep paralysis is there for is to stop you acting out your dreams in the real world. There is no other use for it. Sometimes you can experience transition between sleeping and waking reality though when consciously paralysed, which produces hallucinations, etc. |

Hey Lunary, |

Well even my tounge was halfly paralised I guess because in the end I could move my body easily but it all felt like it was entangled, heavy and paralised afterwards after "Pulses in my mind" passed (Small flashes and sudden visibility of colors(I can't see colors usually in visualisations) which all ended) making myself feel like I'm alot lighter and my breathing was easier and more "Relaxing and light, with a touch of cold brezze that felt quite good". I was in that state for about 20-30 minutes just having fun with visualising with a clear head. |

This is a great question, lately I've been having these weird episodes of sleep paralysis that last a good 20-30 min and I never wind up entering REM. THIS does not make any sense to me. Sleep paralysis (REM atonia) occurs before REM sleep. So why the heck would my body enter sleep paralysis during non-REM sleep? It's incredibly frustrating to lay there stiff as a board just vibrating and mentally trying to make the mind go somewhere it has no intention of going to. But since dreams are also theorized to occur during non-REM, I propose that perhaps we are in sleep paralysis during both REM and some non-REM. It makes the most sense to me, but I'd like to research it when I have the time. It should be noted that I believe these extended periods of SP without dreaming, are a direct result of acute physical withdrawal from sleep medication that I've experienced a few times. So it could also just be my brain somehow misfiring. |
