So how does Lucid dreaming work?

I don't quite understand how it works. How is it different then normal dreaming? Cause when I go to sleep, I will randomly dream about nonsense that I can vaguely end up recalling in the morning, but still.. Can somebody explain how it works? & what's the best way to learn? Thanks alot

Ohh! New lurkers! to both of you!

Lucid dreaming is when you know you're dreaming WHEN you're dreaming, if you understand It's a good idea to train your dream recall before you start using any techniques, I will escpecially recommend writning a dream journal.
When lucid in a dream, you often get to controll the dream in diffrent ways. It's a lot of articles about all this, from dream control to dream recall, so feel free to read any of them !

Are you dreaming now? Do a reality check .... Lucid dreaming is all about being aware of your environment. (quick short technical analysis follows) When sleeping, your body has almost no sensory input from the environment. The mind then shifts from outer, to inner awareness. To your body, dreams are real! That means all the senses you lack in real life, will be created in your mind. If you are able to recognize that you are dreaming then you can LD

Welcome to the both of you.

As was said, lucid dreaming is simply knowing that you are dreaming, while you're dreaming. In most cases, we will dream something, and then not be aware of what that dream is, until we wake up and remember 'wow, that was a crazy dream I had.' Lucid dreaming is when you realize you're dreaming before you actually wake up.

Have you ever been lost in thought, or daydreaming, and not paying attention to what's going on in real/waking life? Then, you finally snap out of it and say 'whoa, wait, I gotta pay more attention..."? Well, it's a lot like that, but in reverse. When we are dreaming, we are usually 'unconscious' of the dream content. We are still reacting to things that are going on in the dream, but our conscious minds are 'asleep', so we aren't really paying much attention. Sometimes, though, you can 'snap out of it', and realize that you are in the middle of the dream. When you do this, you feel like you are actually awake, within the dream.

Just like right now, if I were to say "Hey, you're dreaming right now," you would probably say "what? No, I'm not." But then, what if I were to prove it by pointing at your couch and making it levitate off the ground? You would be completely shocked and awe-struck, right? That is what the situation of becoming lucid feels like.

Hope this helps. Make yourself comfortable and help yourself to all of the reading material, here. If you have any other specific questions, feel free to ask.
      Enjoy your stay!
