Why didn't my cookie taste good?

Ok so I had a lucid dream last night, where I was in this very fancy concert/dinning hall. I wanted to try eating some food in my dream and it all looked very good. I walked over to a table where there was a very good looking plate of cookies. I grabbed one and shoved it in my mouth. Instead of a tasty sugary snack, I was meet with the watered down texture of the cookie. I was confused I thought foods were supposed to taste similar to they would in real life. I was going to try smelling something. I saw a cupcake with Birthday candles and I went over to smell it. Instead of the distinct birthday candle smoky smell the smell was almost like an orderless vapor.
Do foods usually have taste for you guys? Has this ever happened to anyone? Do I just need to practice tasting, smelling, and hearing in my dreams?

It could have been an unconscious expectation you had that the food and smells would not be as good as real life. Probably more likely it was the fact that in the same way that the visual quality of dreams is not always perfect it's possible for the other senses to not feel as vivid, so hopefully next time you'll have better luck.

Branpera, This happens to me all the time. I eat something and it doesnt taste like anything in fact it creeps down my throat very slowly and if i drink some water it sits on top of the food I ate. I always try my hardest not to eat anything in my dreams becuz of this. which is very hard to do since the food always looks delicious. Dnt kno how to stop it tho.

The title of this thread made me laugh for some reason. Everything tastes normal, yummy, and delicious in my lucid dreams. Perhaps it's just a personal thing, where it's different for everyone. Maybe you were over thinking it.

Yes I agree it seems like you were over thinking it. Perhaps you were too focused on the "mystery" of what the cookies would taste like rather than just knowing or expecting them to be tasty. Who knows? Just wanted to offer some food for thought! (Pun intended)

Maybe if I use a mantra like "My cookie will taste yummy" I will have more success. lol jk I'm not actually too worried, although I might be if it was similar to Marquis' problem, I just thought it was an interesting discussion.

I've eaten chocolate cookies two times and they have both times tasted about twice as good as normal. Don't think about it too much, just pick one up and eat it ^_^

Agree with Nina. In all my dreams, both lucid and non lucid, everything tastes delicious. Dare say even better than real life xD
