      Repeated Dream Settings

My name is Keenan. I've had three lucid dreams, and two of them took place at my junior high school. As a matter of fact most of my dreams take place in the same building I went to junior high school. im 17 years old soon to be 18 going on to my senior year. Why does my mind keep taking me back to my 7th and 8th grade year ?

Hi Keenan. I think that the reason that you may be having recurring dreams in your junior high school is that perhaps that time in your life was an important time, when big changes were happening for you. In my dreams I keep finding myself in my old high school, I figure because that was a time when I was experience a lot of change and transition in my life, and all of those feelings and occurances were imbedded in my subconscious, only to resurge again during dreaming.

Did you have your first g/f in junior high? Did you move to a new school then? Did something traumatic happen at that time of your life? Was that a particularly enjoyable time in your life?

Any of those things may have to do with why your subconscious keeps bringing you back to that point in your life. It may either be to remind you of it, or maybe there is something that happened then that you need to resolve. For me, high school was a very frustrating time in my life, socially, and academically. And in my dreams I frequently return to some of those similar situations.

Try to think of why your subconscious would bring you back to that period of your life. Are these dreams pleasant or frustrating? What happens when you become lucid?
Never stop searching for truth. In your search you may think you have found it, and perhaps you have, but if you hold on tightly to a single thread it will fray and it's greater meaning will become lost. There is always more truth stretching deep beneath the surface that promises to reveal ever greater the infinite, interwoven fabric of truth, woven in the looms of Heaven.

I noticed the same phenomena and wrote that essay "The Disengaged Dream Self" regarding it. It seems that the Dream Self is more comfortable in past settings, or even simply different settings than the Waking Self, and, yes, I believe it represents a problem.

I'm an old man and my dreams are always returning to School and even the unpleasantness of Army life. In one dream I actually counted it up -- I had graduated from High School three separate times, and from University I had taken 4 separate Degrees. Then when I am not in some School or another, I am receiving new orders to report to some Army Unit somewhere. The Dream Self loves to indulge in what it has grown used to. It returns to the same Scenes and the same Scenarios.

I believe this is one area where Lucidity could be a useful tool, for when we become Lucid we could take that opportunity of the Waking Self being predominant over the Dream Self to lecture the Dream Self on the necessity of paying a great deal more attention to the Waking Self's present circumstances and to take a greater interest in the Here and Now.

      Middle school

strange enough but I'm still plagued with dreams from the 7th and 8th grade and I'm 27 now. I have several reoccurring dreams about the boy who's locker was next to mine. The only thing I can think it might relate to is change of life, and puberty. Most of my dreams also take place in the town I grew up in and not where I live now.
