      Dreaming of Opposite Genders

Hello. Sorry if this has been repeated.

Last night I dreamt that everyone was the opposite gender. I was a man, my husband was a woman, my best friend was a man and my brother in law was a woman. I was very laid back and relaxed. Almost sleepy (might of been because I was starting to awaken). My husband (as a woman) was asking about my fish tank (like he's never seen it before). Asking what fish I have in it, what certain equipment was...I dont remember what my best friend and brother inaw were doing. I think they were hanging out in the background.

I dont remember ever dreaming I was a man or that everyone was the opposite gender. Can anyone desifer this dream for me? Thanks so much!

Hello and Welcome to dream views.
You asked really good question. (But is not about lucid dreaming )
I must say a few years ago I saw similar dream. I saw that I've became opposite sex (female) and I had a sense that someone said to me this feeling is female orgasm.
Freud said: our dreams a reflection of our unconscious desires. . I think It's almost true.
As my researches show opposite gender dreams can have different meanings. for example mean can be
1- You want to be more competitive like men (males).
2- You want to feel like how males feel. (Like my dream about my opposite sex).
3- You want to be closer to someone of your opposite gender ( your husband ie).
      ....

Thanks for your input. Whats the difference between lucid dreaming and....regular? Dreaming?

I had another opposite gender dream the following night. In this one, I was a vampire guy. I didnt recognize everyone else. And it was a very sexual dream.

lucid dreaming is a dream which dreamer in it knows that he/she is dreaming. Because you haven't know that you were dreaming so your dream wasn't lucid. Looks like number of your opposite gender dreams are significant. Reason of your dreams can be one of the cases that I said. I suggest you to think more about your desires. Anyway a psychologist can say exact reason.

I sometimes dream of being opposite gender: one time I dreamed I was Sherlock Holmes or anyway a young man like him, another time I was a male young gang member, and most recently I was a male spy part of a husband and wife spy team. I think the reasons for these dreams were different: the first one happened soon after I watched the TV series Sherlock, and so my dream was having me star in main role of TV series, I still don't know why I was the gang member youth, but the husband in spy team was interpretted by superman1 on this forum as me spying in the other side, on my more in-charge side of my personality - and I think maybe he had a point.

In general, I sometimes think that when I dream that I am not myself, I tend to look for other things in the dream that maybe are not what they appear - a more metaphorical dream maybe.

How does your husband feel about the fish tank? Mine takes only a little interest in it. If yours does too, maybe his asking about the fish tank as if he had never seen it before may be about him taking a new interest in something you are interested in, looking at it from a new perspective. Alternatively if your husband is in real life really into the fish tank, maybe the dream is telling you that something is wrong, that the interest that is usually there is not now - and this may have nothing to do with fish.

When I first became interested in dreams, my mind used fish as metaphors for dreams. of course for you the metaphor may be different.
You may say I'm a dreamer.

I've dreamt of being the opposite gender, but it never really occured to me that it was anything out of the ordinary. I mean, I've been dragons, donkeys, wolves, demons, elves, aliens, etc... after all that, dreaming about having a different set of genitalia seemed superficial to me. It didn't have to come packed with meaning either. If I thought it had to mean something to dream about being a woman, I would have to think it meant something to dream about being Asian. I can't imagine what the meaning would be in the latter and for the former, I would probably just be making stuff up. In the end, I decided that I experience the dream world from many perspectives, not all of which are going to be the same, and that's okay. It's okay for the same reason that it's okay for every movie to have a different protagonist.
