      Coffee and LDing?

I am a big coffee drinker. Maybe 2-3 cups in the morning and another around 4pm. Any thoughts on caffeine and LDing? Wondering if I should cut down to have better LD experiences.

From what I understand they say you shouldn't drink caffeine in the afternoon, but they say this because it can make it harder to go to sleep. So if you can sleep at night then you'll be fine. But I wouldn't recommend doing it during a short WBTB session.

Coffee is the thing that helps me get lucid!
I do a WBTB after 7 hours of sleep and drink coffee, have breakfast and smoke a cigarette. The coffee helps keeping my mind awake enough to recognice I'am dreaming.

I think the cigarette help you most, not the coffee. You can try to omit cigarette and compare the results. However I don't claim that caffeine cannot help, I just makes people problem to fall asleep.

It does take a while to fall asleep but I think thats a good thing because I have more time to focus on my goal. The problem with the coffee is that when I'am back in bed and being comfortable for a while I have to pee

The cigarette thing is very interesting. I have a theory that cigarettes, although considered unhealthy, actually help people meditate. With a cigarette you give yourself a reason to relax and just sit or stand there. How often would you just sit or stand there without a cigarette? Perhaps we (non-smokers) should though. If you are already relaxed, a cigarette gives you an excuse to let your mind go and perhaps this helps with sleeping and dreams.

Yeah, smoking does actually have a few advantages but I think the general consensus is that the few benefits are massively outweighed by the health problems it will cause in the long-term. Perhaps smoking in moderation, such as the odd cigar or pipe could be good though? I once heard a guy saying that his doctor even encouraged his pipe smoking as it was a way to de-stress

Also, smoking has often been used by indigenous cultures when meditating, although they could have some wacky substances in those pipes!

I drink so much coffee, and I have lucids every single night! I don't think it affects you with lucid dreaming at all unless you can't fall asleep because of it. Keep on drinking!

coffee (caffeine) shouldn't have a negative effect on your ability to lucid dream. other substances, like weed and alcohol, have been proven to reduce the amount of REM sleep one gets. as long as it is part of your daily routine, the coffee shouldn't have a negative effect. neither should smoking cigarettes.
