      Help regarding SP

I've turned to the forums for a little help here. I want to enter SP to conduct my very first lucid dream. (I'm turning to WILD because DILD will take time to adjust to and get it happen every couple of weeks. I'd like to experience my first lucid very soon)
Of course, that is my problem. I can't get SP to come in. Those who have read my "interesting questions" thread can refer to it to know The closest I come to is having odd sensations. These are not things like people touching me, but rather things like tingling feelings, numbing of small areas of my limbs. I can identify 5 very odd different ones.

I will lay down, get relaxed and comfortable, and count my breathe and visualize. (mostly the numbers) If i can forget about my body, forget my physical form exists and just think, Then the closest sensation that comes to SP happens. My feet (and ONLY my feet) will numb, as if it's asleep. I get stuck there. Nothing else happens.

Occasionally i can simulate the sleep breathing patterns and Then Narcotic breathing happens (It's one of Nick Newport's own terminology. I don't know what else to call it.) I slowly relax until i black out. The next thing I remember is me waking up. But this scenario happens only sometimes.

I have TERRIBLE insomnia, and I never get to sleep. Which is why I have turned to the miracle that is lucid dreaming, and it's techniques. The only form of sleep I can get is daytime naps. I've become...an owl. (cue sad violin music)

I'd like to know if anyone has any available tips for me to achieve SP. Or to actually fall asleep.

Thank you in advance. (And thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my post.)

Your first problem is wanting to rush to getting an ld. WILD is what gets most newcomers to lucid dreaming to quit, they see it as instant gratification to lucid dreaming and are extremely frustrated when they don't receive the expected results as quickly as they'd like. Albeit, this may be the technique for you, if so, just stick with it. Do your best not to go technique jumping (trying a new technique every week). Sticking with one or two techniques is your best bet.

As far as your insomnia, it may be your naps causing it. Sleeping during the days makes you not feel the need to sleep at night. I'm not a doctor, but my suggestion is to shut off all electronics 30 minutes before you plan to go to bed and drink some chamomile tea. Keep your room cool and use blankets if you get too chilly.

Regarding sp, I'd suggest meditation before you attempt to reach it. Meditation may also help with your insomnia issue. Try an anchoring tactic, which is just focusing on one thing, such as how the bed feels under your back. Stay calm and do all the things you'd do when falling asleep- such as swallowing and scratching areas that itch.

I wish you the best of luck.
Feel free to ask if you have further questions. ^^

      (I love the community here...Just a sidenote. )

I know I may be rushing a tad, but it's not like i've started 2 days ago. I've been at this for about a week. I've got the confidence and I'm not backing down if I don't succeed. It's a nice mindset to have, to not back down at the first failure. I've never changed techniques, but I'll give DEILD a go when i get the chance to, because I don't normally wake up after dreams.

As with my insomia, I had a feeling it was my naps. I've been good to stay awake so far. I'll stretch and meditate before trying to reach SP.
      Thank you for the answers.
