      Bookworm Dreamers

Last night I had a dream in which I could read a guy's shirt. It said "Friday The 13th". Now, I was under the impression that we could not read in dreams. I faintly recall someone telling me it wasn't possible, and that I should attempt doing it just to prove him right.

But, I was also under the impression one could not die in a dream, and that has been proven wrong as well. What can I say, it's been a busy week. Methinks I also need a better informant.

Anyway, has anyone else ever read something as clear as day in their dreams, and if so, what?

You can do pretty much anything you want in a dream, including die (but no, you won't die in real life). Some people seem to have a problem reading, in that the words will seems to change every time they look at them -- these people often use that inconsistency as a reality check. Others don't seem to have this problem at all. I think it all depends on what you expect to happen. If you expect to be able to read things without a problem, then you probably will.

I have more problem remembering what I read, than in the reading. Actually I had LD last night and I read something from a piece of paper, it said nothing in any language i know, except some parts, I just cant remember what it said. I remember that the text was clear and easy to read.

Btw. Good thing to do in LD's is to pull out piece of papers from your pockets or somewhere else and read them, they are often very funny and weird.

Gotcha'. The mind is a powerful tool. It just seems everything I've been told concerning dreams has been proven wrong in the last week by my own dreams. This forum is just full of useful informants. ^_^ Everytime I sign on, I feel a little smarter before logging out. And if, rather When I have my first LD, I'll definitely attempt the paper out of the pocket thing. Or maybe thin air. Seems like anything's possible. Thanks much, guys!

I think what that person mean is that if u read something once like Friday the 13th then u look at it agian it might just be a bunch of lines or mickey mouse or something

there are different ways of 'reading'.

Have you ever had the experience of having a word just 'appear' in your head, and you look around, and see it's written down on say a poster on a wall? and you read it without consciously intending to, or thinking about it?

I do that kind of 'reading' a lot in dreams. I glance at someone's Tshirt and I just know it says 'Friday the 13th', and I don't question this or doubt my judgment any more than I would in real life.

If however you look closely at it, at the shapes of the letters and the spelling of the words, you'll usually find that it's difficult to consciously 'read' in the sense of paying attention to each letter. Often the letters are from another language, or they change, or move around. Try it. Then look away, and look back again - things rarely still say the same thing.

Of course, as people have said, expectation plays a big part in dreaming, and if all your experience tells you you should be able to read perfectly, you may well get that instead.

Oh I can read alright, I just can't re-read. I can read perfectly, but when I try to read whatever I read for the second time, it says something else. I remember this dream where a friend of mine came with a poem and I read it. At first it was in english and then my friend asked me to read it again, so I did. The second time it was in spanish, but it basically said the same thing. I still think it's funny I didn't even notice that, not only the poem changed, but it also was in a different language, lol.

That's exactly how I am awake or dreaming. I had a dream the other night where I met some kind of surfer dude and he told me "I didn't recognize you because you always wear some kind of drug shirt" and I remember I had to THINK in my dream because I didn't know what he was talking about, then I recalled I did have a t-shirt that says "I've got a good buzz", and I corrected the DC by telling him I only have one shirt like that, and I haven't worn it all summer cause it's long sleeved.

Yeah, I think everyone has different experiences ya know.
Yesterday I just bought a new notebook for a new dream journal and I had a false awakening so I went to write down what I just dreamt and saw that I had 2 entries in it already, I read them and decided that they were legit and seemed to actually remember them as dreams I had, I wrote a whole page on the dream I had, then went back to sleep.

Woke up later and my journal was of course empty, but I remembered some of what I read about the 2 dreams so I put those in.

I don't know if those 2 dreams were real and I remembered them in my dream or if I just read it....kinda confusing.

But anyways I was able to read and remember once I woke almost 2 pages. Of course if I re-read them and realized I was still dreaming they probably would have not made sense.
