expressing your dreams in a visual manner: blender

I think i would be safe in assuming that everyone here has has a dream, and that at one point you might have had a REALLY cool LD, or even an awesome normal dream that you would like to share with other people. Of course, they cant see what you see, but you could make a picture of what you saw... then again, most of us arent that good at drawing or painting.

Where am i going with this? Anyone with a little bit of patience can make 3D worlds and animations using Blender (www.blender3d.org) a FREE 3d modelling program that is almost as fully featured as some of the big name 3D modelling programs like 3DSMax, and Maya. With blender you can render out ideas, or even dreams. You can even make games with it. (although I havent ever done so)

I could make some tutorials if anyone is interested. and if you dont want to wait you could google it, there are plenty of tutorials at their main website www.blender3d.org

      what do you think?

Good idea, but i'm on Windows XP, and that doesn't seem to be listed, and isn't this a breach of the rules?
Seeker's put a post up about posting copyright stuff...not sure if this comes under it, and is it free?

IIRC, Blender3d is freeware, so it's perfectly legal to download.

Sounds like a great idea, i would love to visualise my dreams. There is always one image that sticks in my mind after i wake up and using somthing like this will be helpful. Have to look through the guide when i have more time,

      Thanks for the link

blender can be downloaded for linux, windows, (and maybe even macs...) , it is free so there is no problem with me linking to it, as raylin said. I use winXP also, just download the .zip version of it.

I have created some pretty cool stuff with it, animated rockets, (i started making a dragon), I used it to make graphics for a game I made, a ring, and a hovertank, to name a few

its a pretty full-featured program, like i said.

it looks good, but i'm finding it hard to get my head around for some reason, i think it's going to have to wait till my day off, till i can really play with it...
either that, or i need some lessons in geometry!

wow, dreamdatum those are some nice fish, I like the texture work done on them. and the water effects are pretty cool as well.

either that, or i need some lessons in geometry![/b]
geometry helps a bit, one really cool feature of blender is that you can hover your mouse over almost any button to find out what it does (knowledge of 3 dimensional axies helps)

i did a concept design for the ultimate "LAN chair", surround sound, wireless keyboard and mouse... you should see the computer (its inside the right arm)

ok just so everyone knows you have to have ALOT of patience when using blender, its not like your going to get in a a few weeks, I used it everyday with guides for about a month and still couldnt make a human face,

THIS WILL TAKE MONTHS TO BE ABLE TO DO ANY KIND OF ART

so if i were you i wouldnt waste time on it, just get better at drawing, its much easier and you can practice it in your LDs

didnt take me that long, and i find it easier to blend stuff than to draw it... the idea of digital erasing (so you dont leave nasty pencil marks on canvas) is great, not to mention the hundreds of undo/redo steps you can do

Santa, was your original avatar and/or your current one made by blender? If so, that is VERY good!

      Soth.......you're the man.

Blender is Awesome, and I'm only about a week into using the program. I've been finding tutorials online and whatnot, and I'm learning pretty quickly. I've been doing 2d art for years, and I can already tell Blender is going to take me to the next level. I can't believe this is a Publicly Free Program. That blows my mind.

Anyway...can't thank you enough for the post, man.

And for the people looking for examples of Blender Art from experienced and non-experienced artists, go to the www.elysiun.com forum and check under "Finished Projects."

      Thanks again, Soth.

Oh..and Santa...telling artists not to "waste their time" with Awesome software like this? ....Shame on you.
