      New to lucid dreams...

      Hi,
I just found out this forum and I have to tell I'm really happy that I did it.
Although I would like to get some advice or some guidance if possible.
Long time ago I started having lucid dreams even though I had no idea what they were.
I had to stop sleeping on my back because almost all the time I did it I was waking up in the sleep paralysis part and getting really scared of what was happening.
The other day this happened again but I was in a different position so I decided to do some googling and find more info about it.
After getting more information I wanted to try again and get a lucid dream. Last night I tried to get into sleep paralysis but it was harder then before, I guess it's because now I really want to do it. Anyways so I woke up in the middle of the night and tried to fall asleep but stay aware. I succeeded and I got into sleep paralysis and I tried to move, I started hearing some rushing noises and feeling some heaviness so at that time I thought to myself "this is the part where I'm not completely paralysed yet, just have to wait for the noises to go away and then I'll be completely paralysed". Tried to relax a bit but then when I noticed I lost counscious and I woke up like if I was normally sleeping.

About the noises and the heaviness, I read somewhere that we have to let the noises go away and then "get out" of the body. But I'm not sure if this is correct or not.

Also another question is, when we get into sleep paralysis what we do next? What we do to get a lucid dream ?

      Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forums First off, incase you didn't know, the technique you described is called the WILD(Wake Induced Lucid Dream Technique). It seems that the part you describe as "getting out" of your real body is called an OBE(Out of Body Experience). That is possible to do when in sleep paralysis, although i never heard about letting the noises go away, but i don't really know too much about OBEs since i never tried or attempted them. As for getting in a lucid dream, hearing noises, seeing hallucinations behind your closed eyelids, and feeling heaviness is actually a good thing as it means you are getting closer to a dream. To transition into a dream, engulf yourself with these sights and sounds, and just let the dreamscape engulf you as well. And you explained how you fell asleep during sleep paralysis, and i am not surprised at all. The WILD technique is difficult to do. If you stay aware enough you will not enter a dreamscape. If you are not aware enough you will fall asleep, and that seemed to be the case for you. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, last night tried to do WBTB and WILD but was so excited that couldn't even fall asleep again, then tried to relax but relaxed too much and I woke up in the morning like I normally do.

Hello there DiogoCDS, it's really interesting that you can go into Sleep Paralysis that easily before, and now that you want to, you can't. D:

Anyway, here is a link which I think would clear things up for you: http://www.dreamviews.com/f79/compre...alysis-126975/

Also, when you are in sleep paralysis, do you experience any hallucinations or imagery (images that flash before your eyes along with the sounds)? If you do, then you could use that to make a dream scene which you can enter (with practice of course). If you don't get any imagery, like me since I usually just get audio hallucinations, then you can create and imagine your own scene. You can think about it, and immerse yourself in it. With determination, you can transition into the dream successfully. Good luck!

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

Thanks for the link, I'll read the page when I have time.

About the SP, when I used to frequently get aware of it, all I can remember is that they would turn into an OBE. As soon as I realised I was in SP I would see the ceiling of my room, then I start hearing some noises and feeling vibrations/force around my body. Then I have to push a bit to be able to "get out" of my body and I could walk around my room/house. Although most of the time I wouldn't leave my room because there was a shadow by the door of the room. This shadow would scare me a lot and force me to wake up which was even worse, making me even more scared.

Last time I tried to get in SP I ended up in an OBE again, but this time instead of trying to get out of the body I tried to relax a bit to see if I could get a LD instead. But I guess I relaxed too much and lost counscious and really fell asleep.

Another thing, that I'm going to try tonight that I used to do.
Before when I was frequently getting aware of SP, *in the middle of the night or before I go to bed I had a glass of milk. I also noticed that when I had it the awareness of SP happened more often.

Ahh, well in my honest opinion, I think OBE's are just a form of lucid dreams. But we can never be sure. It is one of the topics that get discussed and debated over a lot, as many people have contradicting views on it. If you're particularly interested in learning more about them, you can check out the Beyond Dreaming section of the forums. Link here: Beyond Dreaming

As for the sleep paralysis and milk, I have no idea why that could be. Everything has a different effect on everyone, and sadly I haven't experimented with food and sleep paralysis that much. How many times has that happened to you? Perhaps you can experiment with it yourself, one week with milk, and then without milk. And from that, you will know what works best for you.

      See ya around!

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.
