Thread: Using Lucid Dreaming to relive past dreams?

Hi,

A few years ago, I had an extremely vivid dream (one that makes you doubt you actually dreamed once you wake up).

The dream was set on the border between heaven and hell. I was part of hell and I had just won a competition to meet up with an angel. I hung out with her in the dream and fell in love with her. Alas she was taken away again by the end of the day/dream.

This dream was extremely vivid and I can still remember most details up to date (without having written it down). A few years after, I met my current ex and I always believed she looked exactly like the girl from the dream. However, I always thought this was biased somehow.

So after having my first LD last night, I thought: 'What if I LD and I end up inside of this very dream again? Could I then confirm whether the girl there was my ex?'

If I can confirm this, I could go as far as believing I've seen the future back then.
Or just plain coincidence.


But to sum it up:
Is it possible to re-dream past dreams with lucidity?

Have you done it yourself?

No.

Since dreams, lucid or not, are generated from memory and memory is always different, dreams are always different. The human brain isn't a computer that can just replay recorded events. That would be nice, but it won't happen.

Not sure if i fully undestand you, but i'll give it a shot. You can lucid dream about a dream that you previous dreamed about, but it won't be the same dream, if that makes any sense? So you can't comfirm that you dreamed about your ex, because that dream is already passed.

It wouldn't be the same dream obviously, but he recalls the dream vivdly, so why shouldn't it be possible? It's the dreamworld, everything is possible.
I think you should try. When you have more control over your dreams, find a way to go back to that dream, like a portal or something, and see what happens

Yes, to some point you could "relive" the dream, although you only have memories to aid you. He isn't sure if that angel was his ex, so "reliving" it wouldn't comfirm anything, since he isn't sure about it to begin with.

If he could actually relive it, it would confirm wether it was his ex. or not.
Maybe he doesn't consciously recalls it perfectly, but subconciously, maybe?...

Yes, that's exactly what I'm currently thinking: what if it's stored is subconsiously somewhere?

Like, picture this movie scenario where the protagonist doesn't know his real father. When his mother dies, he sets out to find his
real father. The only clues he has, are some old pictures of his mother with some different men, and a memory of him seeing
his father's face. But this memory is blurry... he can't recall.

So by using LD, he could possible recall it, then compare the image in his dreams to the guys on the pictures and maybe derive who
his real father is?

Or he could do a DNA test.............. but let's not spoil the fun!

Ah, i think i undestand what your trying to say, but i feel that's more for the beyond dreaming section so i wasn't "calculating" that in. But how can you be 100% sure that your not just tricking yourself? So even if that was possible, you can't really comfirm it 100% if you undestand where im going with this? You could just as easily trick yourself in a lie.

What is that section for any way? Isn't this like LD'ing?

Yeah, you're absolutely right, that's why I'm also sceptical about this. It could just be my mind tricking me...

Well, haven't thought about that before, but yes, you're right. wouln't really confirm anything.
Also lucid dreams are mostly based on expectation, and probably a part of you is expecting the angel to look like your ex-girlfriend, so you could never be sure if that was the dream you wanted to relive or not.

I think that theoretically, seeing as this was indeed such vivid dream, the imagery (including the appearance of any dream characters),
should still be somewhere in my mind.

So I guess I could simplify the question by asking:
Is it possible to dig up old memories and relive these in your LD?

I hope that makes a bit more sense... I'm also sceptical about this being possible (or accurate) but as TruMotion says, perhaps the best way to find out, is to try.

Yes it is and yes I have done it. Not every detail will be the EXACT same but you can get pretty close. You can also use lucid dreaming to continue a past dream.
