      Ssild + wbtb?

If I were to practice SSILD with WBTB, how long would I need to stay up?

When I successfully did SILD I had to stay up for a half hour... otherwise if I didn't stay up long enough I fell back asleep while attempting it.. but it depends on your level of tiredness.

I always run into the problem where I either get distracted and fall asleep before completing the full cycle, or I finish the cycle and relax but just can't fall asleep...I do believe in SSILD's effectiveness though. Just takes more practice I guess.

I think you'd have to stay up the same amount of time as when you WBTB for other techniques like WILD.

If you haven't done that yet, try to experiment with the amount of time you stay up, and figure out which works best for you. Good luck

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

There is a perfect tired/awake combination that you are looking for. Only you can find it.

Okay. So I went to bed at about 10:30ish and woke up at 3:40am. Stayed up for about 30-40 min and then tried SSILD. I did just as the instructions told and was very lazy about just...just kinda of focused on each sense individually, but also just let them happen on their own and present whatever they wanted to present. I didn't hear, see, or feel anything crazy but I did feel my body become numb. My mind was very much awake, but it did feel like my body was falling asleep because my breathing became deeper and much slower.

This happened for about 40 min. I know this because I didn't think anything was going to happen (after performing the steps and not feeling like doing it anymore I was trying to will myself to go back to sleep but it felt as if my mind wouldn't allow me), so I shook myself awake because the numbing was very uncomfortable. But even at that point I had to do a RC because even though my mind was awake the entire time, after I woke myself up my mind felt like it had snapped back to reality as well. It wasn't easy to fall back asleep, but eventually I did and can't exactly say that I got a restful night's sleep. I feel fine now (and thankfully I'm off from school and work today), but I felt like maybe I did something wrong. It almost felt like SP, but like I said...I didn't experience anything completely weird except for the normal numbing of the body.

Why didn't you post this in the SSILD thread?

When you do SSILD you are supposed to just go to sleep. WILD is not expected (though it happens). It seems to raise the chance of DILD. Read the thread on it.
