      Re-stabilization on reentry?

It worked on the first try! I was having a good LD that was pushing my boundaries, only to wake up. I don't know how I remembered the tutorial during that split second but I laid back, closed my eyes and WHAM! I was back in the dream, right where I left off. As I'm writing this now, I realize that I did not re stabilize on reentry. The I reached out and touched things, but I did not dream spin a second time. The dream lasted a while but shifted and I eventually lost lucidity.

For those who reenter their dreams, do you dream spin a second time to stabilize?

Hey congrats on the LD re-entry! I'll admit, on the subject of "needing to stabilize," I find it's not necessary. What IS necessary is of course remaining calm as to not be jolted back awake. Equally necessary, for me anyway, is to focus on a short, pre-memorized list of goals. It is this focus that automatically stabilizes the dream. Believing you HAVE to stabilize no matter what can set up your mind for failure right off the bat. So this list, it can be anything really. I like to have the Task of the Month in mind, and a few personal goals with that, like walking through mirrors, or meeting up with a favorite dream character.

Hope this helps, and I'm glad to answer any more stabilaztion questions, or dream questions in general, should they come up.

      Thanks. That is a help.

I really need to get a task in mind down. Currently I've just been running wild as long as I can get away with it.

      Hahahaa I like that!

Don't know if you've seen the TOTM subforum, but here it is: Task of the Month They have the current month's tasks, and the task of the year, but past month's tasks are definitely worth looking at too. Makes for a fun competitive sport if you ask me.

I just focus on the dreamworld I am in, if I am waking and want to stop I try to just look/listen/smell/ around me, last case scenario I spin, then when I wake I try to DEILD. . Practicing being calm in dreams has helped me IRL as well.

How do you stabilize if you can't spin?

I've already had this happen once. I was in a vehicle wearing a seat belt and couldn't spin. I rocked back and forth as hard as I could. Everything went white or cleared out like an etch a sketch. The setting reappeared and I went on with the dream. I was briefly lucid but the dream shifted soon after.

Too much emphasis on stabilization or not enough?

Practice being calm, collected, and immersing yourself in the dream around you, or the dream you wish to create. In normal dreams you don't wake up after 2 seconds, why would it happen in LDs?

I know that was asked to Ophelia. Hope you don't mind the extra input, just ignore if you wish. I don't get offended.

My guess would be too much emphasis. That's just me though, and I know it's different for everyone. In fact, I only tried spinning once and that actually ended it for me haha. But if spinning works for you, then keep it. If you find yourself in a situation where you can't spin, like in the car dream, then it's nice to have a back-up plan. Like BrandonBoss said, focusing on the dream world, all your senses. Maybe even trying a scene change. Just having something to focus on can calm things down and sustain lucidity.

You can make a personal list, then memorize it and repeat it to yourself before going to bed. That's how I remember the TOTMs. Although I forgot them in the last 2 lucids, so I better practive what I preach haha!
