      sleep paralysis

I've experience sleep paralysis many times in the last few nights. Um, How do i turn paralysis into a lucid dream? i've been told that paralysis is a gateway to lucid dreams...

Ain't Sleep Paralysis great!? Boy, when I wake up and I can't move I jump for joy! Actually I'm jumping for joy within, as I am paralyzed without...er, outside, or whatever, my body is. Anyway, in answer to your question, yes it is a pathway to lucid dreaming. The thing is, you cannot resist it, do not try to move or come out of the paralysis. Keep your eyes closed, and focus on entering a dream. Relax and wait for the sensations to intensify. Try imagining things visually, and you should possibly start to see things forming in your vision. Just don't give up and try to pull out of it, it's tempting I know. Keep trying if it doens' twork.
Never stop searching for truth. In your search you may think you have found it, and perhaps you have, but if you hold on tightly to a single thread it will fray and it's greater meaning will become lost. There is always more truth stretching deep beneath the surface that promises to reveal ever greater the infinite, interwoven fabric of truth, woven in the looms of Heaven.

More correctly, Sleep Paralysis is a gateway into the Lower Astral. the Out of Body People make a great deal of use out of Sleep Paralysis. But the Lower Astral, where it corresponds to physical reality, with a great deal of subjective material swirled into the mix, can be boring, and so the Out of Body People typically find other Gateways into the Higher Astral -- flying into Mirrors or Pictures or whatever techniques. At that point, Astral Travel and Lucid Dreaming begin to meet in the Same Place.

      Leo,

That might explain why I've had some of my possible OBEs directly out of SP. What does the paralysis actually have to do with the lower astral though? Does the paralysis indicate that the mind is nearing the lower astral, or what?

I love it! Woot! I even experienced it when I was 3, & it was so cool, the vibes, & then I would just WILD. Currently, I have found some different things to do w/it nowlike for example, S____. At least by the time I do that in the dream, I can go & read a book(I love doing that!)!

All of this sounds great, and I wish I could do it. But during SP's I just panic. Just can't relax. Partly because I can't breathe. It freaks me out. But I still find it joyable :S

I tried to relax once succesfully and something strange happened. It was like I saw this empty picture in front of me, as in a tunnel. So I said to myself "step into the picture, step into the picture", I was nearly there, but then another part of me started yelling "You can't breathe! Wake up!", and the picture just faded out of view, and I woke up.

      It was quite something.

Don't panic. Just know that you are not really suffocating. You are only suffocating in a somewhat LD. Just try to relax during that time, & you'll feel a lot better!

I bet you can do it, b/c I used to experience that when I was 3, & it didn't scare me at all. In fact, I kind of liked it!

I've never experienced SP, although I'm pretty sure it would freak me out if I had.

I usually experience sleep paralysis if I fall asleep while it is still light outside (which is most of the time during the summer months - especially the past few weeks). I always feel lightheaded and this weird sensation of being pulled. I have tried not to panic before but it doesn't seem to work. The last time it happened to me my cat was on the bed and I kept hoping then he would jump on me or something so that I would hopefully be able to move again. I also felt like someone was sitting on me and have heard that some people even see something sitting on them - which freaks the life out of me. The problem I have is that I forget I am just dreaming. I have even tried to convince myself that if it happens again, I will be aware that it is just a dream - doesn't seem to work. I still panic and try unsuccessfully to call out. When I do wake up, as I start to fall asleep again, I feel the pull and know that it will happen again so I keep waking myself up until I can no longer do that then finally fall asleep only to have it happen again. This always happens and it has reached the point where I no longer go to sleep before sunset. It was really bad when I had to work the next day in June because the sun wouldn't set till after 11 PM. It also happens if I am only a little tierd rather than exhausted, so I usually don't go to be till like 2 AM and therefore don't sleep properly even though I try to get the 8 hours of reccommended sleep. I really don't know what to do anymore.

I used to hate sp so much, it was always very uncomfortable and i didn't have a clue what was happening. Now that I understand it more its better, but time goes by sooo slow. I do specificly remember having very, very vivid dreams of things and lights around my room and the rest of my house after. Every single sp i have had this occurs in, in fact, me wondering what the hell was going on was what lead me to this site in the first place. The always bad part about it was I was very uncomforatble in this state of paralysis before, and i would try to move so hard, and the rushing sound in my ears was nearly unbearable, until finally I did wake up, and though it was just a bad dream, so I didn't have the energy to sit up and it would just happen again and again all night untill I rolled on my side. This happens to me once every couple months, seems nearer to strong emotional experiences. As far as seeing stuff goes, I remember seeing things I know where real goes I remember seeing my fan in my window, and my tv off in my room. This may just be because I can sleep with my eyes open or partialy open without knowing it.
