      Very New To Lucid Dreaming

So basically, there's a lot to learn and a lot to read. I'm a little overwhelmed. I'm here to ask where I should start and what should I start doing to get better at it? I'm keeping a dream journal cause I was told that's one of the things you should do when starting to lucid dream. So yeah, I'm here because I know nothing about lucid dreaming and need some help, just someone to point me in the right direction on where to start. Also, I used to smoke a lot of pot, especially before bed, so I haven't had a dream in 4 years. But recently I stopped and now I can dream again. And they're not just dreams, I know I'm dreaming, but I can't control it. I just kinda watch it. I'm just here to learn basically, so any help would be awesome. Thanks.

I would recommend the book Exploring The World Of Lucid Dreaming, by Stephen LaBerge. It gives a good introduction to the subject and covers what you can do - dream journals, RCing, mantras etc - to help you on your way.
My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.

Hi. You can begin by reading about the basics, by reading some Dreamviews tutorials or watching some entertaining videos on youtube like:

Learn lucid dreaming: part 1 - YouTube

And keep in mind that happiness (or in this case lucidity) is often not found when you look directly for it, it's usually just a consequence of something else.
So when you read about all these great ways of inducing lucid dreams, don't perform the methods (primarily) in order to get a lucid dream, because if you do you are more likely to fail. Instead choose a method that you appreciate for the method itself, something that you think is fun to do, this will give more happiness and success.

It's a little advanced mindset to begin with perhaps, but it's better to let you know now already than to find out the hard way as most of us do for the first 2 years of practise..

Also learn from your failures do not get dragged down by them. If you don't get lucid one night with a method, don't scream in pain, instead learn and gain.

These two books are the best place to get started:

The classic: ETWOLD by Stephen LaBerge
Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming: Stephen LaBerge, Howard Rheingold: 9780345374103: Amazon.com: Books

And to bring you up to date with all the modern stuff and loads of information this is great: AYD by Daniel Love
Are You Dreaming?: Exploring Lucid Dreams: A Comprehensive Guide: Daniel Love: 9780957497702: Amazon.com: Books

For youtube videos this channel is good
      Stephen Berlin - YouTube

Best advice I can give is to read as much as possible and talk to people who've been doing it a long time. Good luck!

You guys are great, thanks a lot! I appreciate it. Usually on the forums I go to if I've just signed up nobody helps at all and treats me like shit. But this place is great. I can't wait til I get better and can actually contribute.

Our Beginner's guide is much shorter than the recommended books to get you started. Technique called DILD is usually recommended to start out with. More about DILD here.

You can also join a Intro or General Lucid class in DV Academy. Please ask if you need help with anything. Happy dreams
