      Ever lose enthusiasm?

Just wondering if anyone here has periods where they lose enthusiasm for obtaining or inducing lucid dreams? When I first discovered lucid dreaming in June, I was very excited about it, and had my first lucid dream 5 days later. Since then, I seem to have a lucid dream about once every five days on average (even when I don't try), but somehow just recently, I lost my enthusiasm, my dream recall became very fragmented and I stopped recording my dreams altogether. I even had a lucid dream in which the only thing I can remember from it is that I just didn't care that I was lucid and didn't bother trying to do anything at all.

It's not a huge problem, because without even trying, I had my most amazing, realistic, detailed, vibrant and vivid lucid dream that I've had so far this morning and it's definetely brought the enthusiasm for lucid dreaming back. Let's just say that lucid sex with Gwen Stefani whilst flying above a city at night is fun (more on that in my Dream Journal).

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else gets this lack of enthusiasm from time to time and if so, what you do about it? I guess the best thing is to simply just wait until you feeling more into it?

To tell you the truth, I don't think I will ever be as excited or mesmerized with lucid dreaming as I was when I first started. Since then, though, I have always maintained a genuine interest in it which has allowed for me a small handful of lucid dreams per week.
I also believe that your expectations of lucid dreaming will grearly effect your actual LD experience. If you think you've "seen all there is to see" and lose some of your enthusiasm for it, your lucid dreams could turn out rather lackluster, but still lucid.

I have been through a particularly stressful time recently and I have not had a lucid for many weeks. Can stress cause a "Dry Period". I mean lucid dream wise . No pun intended.

Everytime I really lose enthusiasm, and think something like "I'll start again next week" or "I'll have more time for LDing during the holidays" then I actually find it helps. I always seem to have an LD that night.

Perhaps a subconscious reminder that I shouldn't give up.

This is really cool Jrels i totally feel the same about Lucid Dreaming.....

I dont have the same passion as i used to have when i first started Lucid Dreaming, the experience was filled with Passion and Excitement, now its just the idea of lucidity rather than the raw enthusiasm.

I wasn’t able to verbalize my sympathy towards Lucid Dreaming as well

I think once you get into the idea that you’ve become an experienced lucid dreamer, it takes away the magic of finding out new things…

it's not so much i lose my enthusiasm for lucid dreaming, but dreaming all together...in that my recall does a nose dive, and the dreams i have seem really boring...
so then i say, don't worry about it, there's always tomorrow night...i call it 'dream impotency'
as in, you really want to have a lucid, or even just a good dream..everything is good to go and....nothing happens!!
very frustrating, but if i let it get to me, it gets worse.
like MJ just said, back to basics. Back to just sleeping for sleeping's sake, and what dreams come after that are yours!

Oh, I do. I lost all active well, caring about a year ago. I made sorry little attempts to update my DJ now and then but I have obstacles that stop me from being able to do anything about it. Namely, I am shaken out of bed (shocked out of bed) every morning, so my recall already disappears down the pan. Then if I'm lucky enough to still remember the shattered dream, I won't be able to write it down for another six hours because the family is in the car and if I don't get dressed in the next thirty seconds and have my ass parked in the are we are going to be late and my mother will not be very happy and will hope an elephant crushes me in my sleep. So, yep. I lost all caring feelings for it some time ago.

I frequent DV all the time, though, and namely for the off-topic forums and generally to help moderate sometimes. I still know aplenty about lucid dreaming, but I think I suffer from some sort of "over specification" or something from reading too much about it.

For example, I have a strict definition of what makes a WILD in my mind, so when I get something that could be a WILD coming up, I spend forever thinking of if it's really a WILD or just some boring blob coming up, and well, it just makes it all go down the pan and out into the sewers (and the sea, Nemo!). In other words, my imagination lays dead.

That about goes along with my problem as well.

Absolutely, I'm blaming my dry period on it myself.

without even trying... I wish I could rely on such a technique, but every night I go without lucidity I feel like I've just wasted a whole other day out of my life.... and those days add up quickly.

Unfortunately, I think I'm losing enthusiasm for the wrong reasons -- exhaustion and lack of reward. I just keep trying and trying and I'm not getting far. I started in January, have had a good handfull of LDs, but I still don't feel like I've accomplished anything.

I'm constantly trying to find new ways (mostly technical) of improving my LD frequency - and eventually control. But I'm just starting to lack the one thing that appears to be important...confidence.

iv lost interest a few times now, its not a bad thing really, your body needs a time when you can just relax and not have to worry about having an LD every night, i say just take a little while off, I guarantee you’ll come crawling back eventually (if you’ve ever actually had a good one)

I lost my enthusiasm for lucidity for quite a long time, and just recently regained in. What helped was nothing more than a line from a movie about the infinite possibilities that are open to us in our dreams. After that, 2 nights out of 4 I have come very close to lucid dreaming, better than I've done in a good long time.

Yup, I definitely have. During the summer, when I don't have to wake up for school, my sleep schedule goes straight to hell. Right now I sleep about 14 hours a day, scattered in little naps. I'm up most of the night, and asleep half the day, so my REM cycles are fragmented and I rarely get dreams worth remembering. And all attempts I make to get back into a regular cycle fail, since I'm not forced into going to school at 7:00 in the morning...
Well, I guess I haven't really lost the enthusiasm though, I just have a hard time finding an ideal time to attempt an LD. I still try WILDs most nights (or days), and I get the occasional DILD, but not as often as during the school year.

I think like LDing is alot like doing physical exercise and most other things in life. You have to get your self into a routine, once your into a routine your set up for good. Now all I gotta do is follow my own advice and I'm set.

My enthusiam is kind of a broken light switch, if you will.
For a while the light is on and I'm pumped about having an LD...and then it breaks, due to something or another. And for a while I really don't care.

I lose my enthusiasm quite easily. Recently I lost my enthusiasm because my most recent LD was really not very lucid at all ... in fact I could hardly see (i.e. my vision of what was going on was poor). And I couldn't control it very well.

However, in the last few days my dream recall has shot up and I'm remembering around 4 dreams per night, ... all of which are complex, symbolic and interesting.

this happens to everyone. What usually gets you going again is an "accidental" LD or reading someone else's experiences.

For me, it tends to go in cycles. When there are lots of things happening in my life, and/or I'm stressed about something, then my interest in LDing disappears. But when things settle down again, then I'm back on it.

I agree with TygrHawk, if i'm stressed i really dont recall dreams therefore dont become lucid, but if i can relax my recall does greatly improve. Its like waves of enthusiasm, for two weeks i really get into it and become excited at the prospect of Lucidity then it slowly fades for a few weeks then the excitment pops his head back up again

if i start to 'lose' my enthusiasm for lucid dreaming i usually read about dreams in books and try to connect myself with the wonderful world of lucid dreaming.

Talking to other people also helps me to get enthusiastic about lucid dreaming.

Yep, going through that stage right-now. I haven't had an LD for about three weeks, my dream recollection is very poor and I'm just not bothered at the moment. I hope it comes back.

Just recently I've began to stop writing in my dream journal (although I have LDed a few times after that) I've been really busy with college visits, band practices and preporation for my senior year that LDs haven't been at the top of my list of things to do. I think I'm going to start up again though. I haven't had an LD in a week and I miss them.

I never in about 6 months thought I would lose enthusiasm for LDs. But real life problems and stress took a toll for two or three months. If you guys are young and you have your health, then think about it, there isn’t a lot standing in your way. There is an old saying (If you have your health, you have everything) Believe it and go for it wile your young. One more bit of wisdom. If you’re young and have your health, don’t forget whom to thank for it. This is the three most important things I have learned in my time here on earth. 1:cheerish what health you have. 2: Give thanks to the creator. 3:Go for your dreams.
