      Inducing nightmares.

I don't know if this should belong in the sub-forum concerning induction methods for lucid dreaming, since this is more about inducing nightmares. I am being serious here. It's not something I want people thinking I'm joking about. My dreams are often mundane. I might get a strange dream every now and then, but nothing out of the ordinary. No monsters, no magical world, no rabbits with chicken legs and a clock for a face. Nothing like that. Just plain, boring dreams.

So, it seems to me that people who have experienced nightmares found a way of overcoming these by somehow realizing they're dreaming. Hence lucid dreaming. I don't know if these nightmares were recurring nightmares, or if by "recurring" they mean it's always a nightmare, but something always different. Sometimes it makes me think if I experience nightmares, I'll figure out that I am dreaming and take control of the situation.

I'm curious and I'm asking here since this is a message board about dreams: Is there a way to induce nightmares? I don't care if it's something I need to eat before bed, something I should watch before bed, something I should listen to before bed, just as long it's not a supplement or something like that.

Know any horror films that may actually scare you? Try to induce fear by turning off your lights in the house and almost tell yourself there is 'something' in there. Walk around the house into empty rooms etc, thinking of something either from the film or something you find off the internet for example this - The Expressionless - Creepypasta Wiki
That stuff scares me every time.
Visualise the monster/person crawling under your bed as you go to sleep, imagining what it might do.
Creepypasta has some really good horror stories that you can read in bed too.

I know your feelings about boring dreams, most of mine revolve around school or the local park, I wish they were weirder.
      Goodluck

I don't watch horror films. Today's kind seem more focused on torture and less on scaring people, it seems, but I can't say for certain. I guess Paranormal Activity could help. I've never watched it, though. I'll try to induce fear, though. I don't know how I'll do that, since I don't believe in spirits or ghosts. I'd probably trick myself into thinking a burglar is in my house.

I've heard of Creepypasta, but I don't know how creepy it'll be. Slender Man didn't seem to bother me, to be honest. I'll give Creepypasta a shot, though. Thank you.

Creepypasta is good, only read the highest rated ones, and try reading the ones that are based on true stories such as the dyatlov pass incident.

Yup, just find something that really scares you and then try thinking about it while going to sleep, haven't used that by myself though, because firstly, i swear nothing actually scares me anymore, and secondly i have weird type of dreams quite often already.

I do not think nightmares is what you are needing. Sounds like you need to read more books about magical places. Watch movies about what you want to happen in your dreams. Daydream about how you wish things would be. I am guessing you are pretty busy and watch TV shows about real life (parks and rec, the office) or reality TV. You need to watch star wars and lord of the rings and Harry Potter. Read some Isaac Asimov or H. P. Lovecraft. This will get you crazy dreams. If you just want a straight up nightmare. Then you have to actually be afraid, not just watch scary movies.

Eat chocolate before sleep. Or anything with high calories, lays chips or anything like that.

I used to have my wi-fi modem in my room and when I got to sleep, the electromagnetic waves would cause me to have some freaking night terrors.
If you want to have nightmares or night terrors(I don't recommend night terrors tho) well you can put the wi-fi in your room.
6million hertz per second that goes in all your house is destined to wake you up freaking out in the middle of the night.
it keeps the brain activity up all night so eventually you feel like you're being attacked by something.

I eat high calories all the time before bed and I always have that many hertz per second going through my room. I have had close to a thousand dreams in the last 6 months and one nightmare. I am afraid you might be using that as a placebo.

Hey it's just a theory, I'm just trying to help here. After I moved my wifi away from my room I noticed a big difference.
And I just read a few articles where people believe the same thing as me.
Wifi waves are just like any other Electro-magnetic waves, if you're sensible to it you can actually be affected by it.
And the waves travel everywhere in your house... if you stand at one or 2 meters while you sleep, it might keep your brain cells awake since they keep receiving waves.

And it's no news that eating right before going to bed might cause you some nightmares...

Maybe you're too much focused on having nightmares. Just another theory.

I think a good way would be to read scary stories and look at youtube videos of scary stuff?
Oh and nightmares usually just come when you less expect it... so don't focus on it

      Idk my point of view.

Well, I guess I'd have to read or watch some fantasy for those types of dreams. I had an unusual dream last night with some three-dimensional object shaped like a diamond and it consisted of many small cubes making it up. It altered into different things I don't quite recall, but then I ended up absorbing it through my hand and both of my hands had some form-fitting aura like a rainbow. Pretty strange.

I've tried eating cheese. I took maybe a cubic inch of cheese and ate it before bed. I don't think anything really happened. The next night I doubled that. Something may have come about, but it was still ordinary. I tried the third night by waking up, writing in my notebook, getting up to eat the cubic inch cheese and went to bed. I still have some cheese left, but I haven't bothered with it.

I bought some chocolate mint syrup yesterday, so I am thinking about taking a spoonful of that before going to bed to see if I get any results. If not, I'll try the other method I tried with cheese so that I'll have my REM state working and I will be relaxed enough to fall asleep sooner.
