      cross-dimensional dislocation

I've noticed an interesting dream phenomenon and wonder if others have to. This morning was a good example. I had about an hour of sleep left before getting up, so I tried to fall asleep, thinking I would like to LD. When I awoke I thought "darn, no dream and I didn't LD." My mind seemed to continue the stream of consciousness I had while falling asleep. But then, "Wham" I remembered that not 5 seconds ago I was in the dream world and the whole long dream memory was "back". It was like transitioning back to the real-life dimension caused a dislocation of the consciousness. In fact this is similar to entering a dream (without WILD) where the conscious mind is dislocated and the dream conscious takes over. And, I have not recalled a dream when I awoke but then will continue the dream when drifting back to sleep. When I LD, upon dream exit there is no dislocation and I dont temporarily drop the memory. Similarly, no dislocation the othe direction when WILDing.

Probably has to do with state-dependent memory or the fact that during sleep serotonin, histamine, and norepinephrine completely or nearly completely quit firing... leading to memory "hiccups". When lucid, it's a decent guess to say that, to some extent, these neurotransmitters begin firing more.

I used to take a more scientific viewpoint as you articulated, but I must say that over the years I think much of what we are goes beyond the science of the matter. You could also say that love is nothing more than a chemical reaction, or that a "faith" gene has been found in humans. In a similar way, dreams can be considered chemically induced hallucinations. But I am now thinking they transcend and are more than the sum of the chemical reactions involved. There is an "other dimensional" aspect that one clearly experiences that is hard to satisfactorily explain.
