Bennerman's General LD Questions

Alright, so this is going to be for any general lucid dreaming questions I have.

This first question is about Lucid Dreaming Goals:

Most of us have goals for their lucid dreaming. Some people want to go on adventures, some people want to have sex, some people want to complete the task of the month. Mine lately has been to meet my tulpa. I explain that only so you understand what my goal is. You don't have to believe in tulpae to answer the question, as it is about goals in general.

My question is, during my lucid dream last night, I didn't remember my goal at all. In fact, the only thing regarding lucid dreaming that I could remember was to stabalize.

So what I am wondering is, does anybody else find they have trouble remembering their goals during lucid dreams?

I have a feeling that this is one of those things that improves with each lucid dream, as this is my first lucid dream in two or three years. Is it normal to forget your goals during your first lucids, and does it improve later on?

For me, it is normal. Or at least, it was. Now I can remember my goals fairly well, so it wiil likely improve over timt.

If you remember could depend on a few things.

1. how well did you implant this idea into your memory
- mantras
- acting it out during day and daydreaming about it
- visualizing it as falling asleep

2. level of awareness in your LD
- sometimes you remember your whole waking life, sometimes just some of the goals, or even nothing at all

Regarding WBTB:

If I wake up and don't remember having a dream, should I reset my alarm for half an hour to an hour, go back to sleep, and try again at the next alarm? By my understanding, there's not really a point in WBTB, atleast for DEILD, unless you wake up in the middle of, or immediately after, a dream.

I prefer to drink water before bed and then every time it wakes me up for the restroom. Just because alarm may wake you up to suddenly and you don't have that calm transition between asleep and awake, when it's best to remember a dream.

I have a rediculously large bladder, so that won't work. :P

Sometimes it happens, I also believe it should get better with time.

And you can do that every night Gab? That's what I call taking it to the next level, I'm taking notes. :)

lol my bladder is so small that I don't even drink anything within two or three hours of going to bed and wake up around three times at night to go. :p

The only way it won't work if you don't try.
Just a simple fact of you drinking water before bed and thinking about how it will wake you up after a dream may acctually wake you up after a dream.

But if you look at suggestions with "that won't work" attitude, then it won't work for sure. Huge part of lucid dreaming, remembering dreams, waking up at desired time is believing in yourself and in methods and tips, no matter how crazy or unlikely they seem.

LOL, yeah, I do that every time I remember, and when I go to bed at decent time. Sometimes it wakes me up, but all I recall is some fragments. Then it seems like I'm getting up just a few minutes too late. But other times I'm able to write down a dream. And what's more, it makes me happy and motivates me to do more.

Yes! I find non-lucids to be incredibly motivating too, I would be waking up and making entries a lot more if it wasn't for my inability to fall asleep easily afterwards, sometimes even a WBTB with some journaling can get in the way of sleep. This might also have a bit to do with excitement.

One natural WBTB per night is starting to get sacred for me though, the fact that I drink something with my dinner and go to bed soon is enough to ensure it since like our friend Yost I must have a really small bladder. :D

Ok, I know that there are WBTB and WILD guides, but it seems to me that they are a) general guidelines, or b) so long that I can never remember them when I am WBTBing. So can someone post a very short STEP BY STEP WBTB suggestion here? I know that generally one person's exact method won't work for most other people, but I'd rather have a simple exact guide that I can tweak a little bit, than a long complicated guide or a long (or short) vague guide. Thanks.

And yet, that post doesn't give enough information. Simply getting excited and going back to sleep is what I have been doing almost every day for the past month. I'm basically looking to combine WILDing and WBTB. That seems to combine DILDing and WBTB, if that makes sense.

I was told there are no step-by-steps, but if anyone thinks of any, let me know.

Regarding the WILD/WBTB tutorial.

1) wake up at a certain time (change this around till you find out what time is good for you)
2) stay up a certain length of time that gets your mind in the right awake/asleep mindset (might take a few tries, trial and error)
3) fall asleep while keeping your mind passively aware. Counting works for some, imagining sensations, saying a mantra. An anchor is what is supposed to keep you like this. It keeps your mind aware enough to not lose consciousess, but tired enough to fall asleep.

Change up all 3 of these, one at a time till you get desired results. Keep track of each time it works till you find a common factor.

Example
3 O'clock, 5 minutes, mantra "I'm dreaming"

Not really to your specifications, except it is short. The first 2 you decide before bed, so all you have to do is remember the third in the middle of the night. Sounds like you might need to stay up longer if you are struggling remembering things. Waking from really vivid dreams will increase likely hood of success (IMO) and waking without an alarm (autosuggestion).

I seem to always give up and fall asleep normally during WBTB. Not really by choice, I'm just too tired to make the right decision.

Benner, I seem to remember that your LDs were all DILDs. Is that so? If yes, then if I may, I would really suggest you concentrate on DILDs.

WILD without WBTB may not work, unless you are willing to accept every attempt as a fun learning process and you are determined to keep trying, untill you find what works for you.

DILD seems to be the best way to go, since it doesn't interrupt your sleep in any way and all the practice is done during day and pre-sleep. Good luck:alien:

That is correct, but both seemed to be triggered by headaches. So how long, if I keep up with the mantra and RCing, should it take to see results?

You already had results, so just practice and you will succeed. Anywhere from a day to few weeks or months.

So, got some questions about supplements and dream recall:

1. Melanieb explained to me that a deficiency of vitamins can cause LDing problems. Can anyone tell me a few good supplements/vitamins that help with LDing, AND note for each one (just a simple yes or no in brackets) if you are confident that they will be found in most normal multivitamin pills?
2. My dream recall recently went from fairly good to almost zero. I can only remember one or two themes from last night's dream. I was told stress can cause recall problems, so this will be a two part question:
a) What can I do about the stress? EITHER exercises or methods I can use to lower stress in general, OR decrease the effect of stress on my LDing.
b) Are there any other things that could affect my recall?
3. From last night, all I remember is that I was in a dream within a dream at once point, and in that "dream-dream" I had a false lucid. That is when you only become lucid as part of the dream, basically like an actor reading a line from a script, rather than the actor realizing something himself. Anyone have any experience with false lucids? Unless I can utilize it to help me really have a lucid dream, this is more for curiousity than any practical reason.

Some of my favorite tutorials were listed^^ There are tons of things that effect recall, I would recommend making note of what makes your recall go up and down.
3. No such things as "dream within a dream" just scene changes. This specific dream change is actually helpful to get LDs or "false lucids". False lucids come from lucid dreaming ideas seeping into your mind, but not having enough awareness. Every time something changes in your mind, try and slow down and think deeply about everything. If the idea that "I'm dreaming" pops up in your dream, you might just have a "dream about LDing", but if you are the type of person to slow down and analyze things, then you should be able become more aware.

ADA and recall are the top two things that effect recall in a dream. I don't practice ADA, er... not like everyone else, so since what I do isn't really the same as everyone else, I just keep it on the down low. :P
