      Going Mad with Melatonin.

How does one know if the Melatonin one is taking is of the 'Bovine' type ??. I mean with all the Hysteria over 'Mad Cow' etc, is it really safe to take. Mmmmmm. Dreams of Grass and Lush Meadows. (Moooooooooooo). The Synthetic type must be safer !!??.

I think most melatonin is synthetically made, or made from pigs at the very most. And even if it were made form cows, I don't think the chemicals could contain traces of Mad Cow Disease.

Are you really worried about this? Let's look at the risk factors involved.

      1) The cow would have to be infected.
      2) The lab had to miss the fact that the cow was infected
      3) The purification process would have to be substandard to let the organism past
      4) You would have to purchase the lot made from that infected cow
      5) There has never been a case of mad cow disease passing from an animal to a human

Seems like good odds to me

Ok, I agree with all but the last point. Quite a few people have been infected with CJD (Mad Cow) in Britain at least, and no doubt many more will due to its long incubation period. But if it's mostly synthetic why should I worry. (Nightly dosage is only 1mg). Relating to one's age Iv'e read this is about right.
