I have a serious gustion about journals.

I have a digital hand held recorder that is easy to use and upload to computer, sort, query and analyze my dream journal. My question is, is that being lazy and could it account for my slow progress in learning to LD? When I first started and had most of my LDs I was keeping a journal with pen and paper One thing about the ease of a recorder is that a lot of information can be recorded before it’s forgotten including emotions and tone of voice and it helps in remembering what the dream was really like. But should I take the time to write it on paper?

I tend to do both. I record the dream first using my MP3 recorder that I keep by my bed and then use the recording later once I have more time to write a text version in my dream journal on this site (okay, not exactly pen and paper, but I stopped using pen and paper a long time ago )

It hink it's a case of doing whatever you feel comfortable with...i've always written my dreams down by hand, and then transcribed them onto here, in the dream journal section...
You talk about laziness, it's just as easy to get lazy with pen and paper!

lol... That sometimes happens to me, even though my MP3 player's microphone is pretty good. It normally happens with dreams that I record and then completely forget them over the day. Once I remember them again, I can usually work out what I'm talking about and saying.

My digital recorder is a very good one and catches every little sound. I can hear every little sound maid with crystal clarity. One bad thing is I get to hear how stupid I sound first thing when waking. Lol

      Analog vs Digital

You couldn't possible sound as stupid as I do. I have a speaking defect that makes talking a little challenging even when fully awake.

      Pen and paper for me.

Personally I think its even better to record it, and its easier. The biggest thing to do, is make sure you do it every day. That is the key, doing it all the time. Then it doesn't matter if you write it down or use a recorder.

I'm reviewing every dream I’ve recorded from the beginning of this year. It is not finished yet but I should have a pretty comprehensive accounting of my dream signs when I'm done. If it becomes a successful method I will let everyone know.

I think it depends pretty much on person. Someone will remember better if they write down their dreams, someone if they record and listen their dreams. Someone might even draw their dreams to remember them better. It's personal. Just like how you learn things.

      That's what I think.

Yeah actually doodles are better for me if I have a long one, because otherwise I'll start to forget it before I'm finished writing. Also when I try and write it all down too fast it looks ridiculous

      mexican bandits, in the elevator

      something under the rock

then at a meeting, 2000 people

      rubber adulterants

      Stuff like that doesn't help.

      Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me.

actually it helps me! in the way that you jot down a few important points of the dream so that when you go in depth in the writing, you will have a reminder of what else you need to write/recall. sometimes a dream takes a while to write and something i was just thinking about 10 minutes ago, i completely forget! writing down jots as soon i awaken seems to help with my recall.

      .
This may be the wrong place to ask the question about keeping a journal but don’t think I ever read someone questioning the method of audio recording to hand writing.
