      Uncontrollable spinning effect?

I'm wondering if anyone can help me understand something strange that happened in a lucid dream last night.

For much of the LD (which I think went for about 10 mins), I had this strange sensation of spinning to my left. The feeling is one that most people will be familar with - it's the after-effect you get when you (in real life) spin around on your feet really quickly for a while, and then stop moving. You know, that dizzy, disoriented feeling like the world is still spinning in one direction?

In my lucid dream it made it nearly impossible for me focus my vision directly ahead of me or even move in a straight line. At one point, I tried to fly to the moon, but this spinning effect made my goal pretty much impossible because I couldn't even focus my sight on it!

Does anyone have any idea as to why this might have happened?

Note that I didn't (nor do I ever) spin around in my lucid dreams. I always use the technique of rubbing my hands together if I wish to stabilise the dream instead.

When I eventually woke up, I found I was lying in my right side, and that my right shoulder and neck were in a fairly painful position. My immediate urge was to move to my left to relieve the pain. I wonder if this might be responsible for the effect in my dream?

      I kinda doubt it though...

Very well could have been the case, Denholm. You may have been loosing your lucidity due to being in this position, shifting your awareness to you body, and how uncomfortable it is. Did you try and stabilization techniques whilst in the dream to combat the feeling?

The effect didn't actually interfere with my level of lucidity. At one ponit (after around 5-10 mins of being lucid), the dream started to fade and I immediately performed the rubbing hands stabilisation technique. Everything went black, then I had a FA. Fortunately, I quickly realised it was a FA, became lucid again, and continued with the dream.

The spinning effect seems to have been independent of my level of lucidity or any stabilisation techniques. At one point, I made a concerted effort to stop the spinning effect from occurring (by willing it to stop), and I felt like I *nearly* was able to stop it. But then soon after, it came back. It wasn't there during the entire lucid dream, but kept coming back repeatedly for no clear reason.

Maybe if I tried the stabilisation technique while it was actually happening, that would have helped. I'll keep that in mind if it happens again.

My thoughts exactly. It could very well help it, but you never know unless you try! If not, Then, Will it away just as you had before, however, KNOW it will go away once you have willed it to leave. Don't 'hope' that your will power is enough to silence it. Good luck!
