      Lightbulb Second Uncontrollable Lucid Dream

Is it possible that your conscious mind is so asleep it just can't wrestle control of a lucid dream? I believe I had my second lucid dream this afternoon*. But it was strange. I wasn't conscious enough to formulate any of my dream-awareness plans and certain aspects of my thought process seemed "switched" off. For example, I don't recall the beginning of the dream or how I became lucid. But I was in a room with two bulldogs running around on the floor (I don't own dogs) in a place that wasn't my home with people who weren't my family, however in the dream I understood that these things represented my home and my family respectively. Somewhere along the line I said "I'm dreaming" then went to stabilize the dream by first, bending down and rubbing the skin of the dog (also petting him in the process, which was real enjoyable) and I marveled at how real he felt. Secondly, I began to rub my hands together, which felt rough and real. At this point I think I was going "asleep" again because I knew I had to keep feeling things, but I didn't seem to have the ability to realize that I could exercise other senses or needed to stay mentally engaged in the dream. Two half-processed thoughts came to mind, one, I needed to keep feeling things. I hobbled around and stopped at an old woman (I had my hands outstretched and I was about to feel her up when I thought- okay no that's awkward ((One because she was staring at me with a "No you don't, buddy" look, and secondly because she was f-ing old, bro))) but instead bent down and rubbed my hands on the carpet.
My second simultaneous half-thought was "This isn't where I want to be" for a lucid dream. But I couldn't conjure any other thoughts. I couldn't process where I DID want to be, I just knew I didn't want to waste my time here. So I closed my eyes and spun around. The world went dark but a black and white linoleum tile floor began to appear below me (I no longer had feet or hands). But it stopped there. Somewhere the idea to do a reality check came and, seemingly unconsciously at this point, I did one that I rarely EVER do in real life-- I grabbed my nose (didnt have hands at this point, I think the dream went into 3rd person without me being there) and I felt myself breathing heavy. I had the sensation of my chest pushing against something soft and the realization flooded in that this was my sleeping body breathing soundly, and it awed me. But then the sensations took over and I "woke up". But I only opened my eyes briefly, without moving, and went back to sleep so I don't know if this was a real awakening or a false awakening.
It doesn't matter because by that point I didn't have control anymore. I think I just dreamed in a non-lucid state by the time the "reality check" happened. But I can't tell.

Do you guys know what happened? What was this? Feel free to ask me any questions about it for clarification.

All I know is the dream that happened immediately after was realistic, but it was definitely non-lucid. However that um, linoleum tiled floor became the floor for the next stage upon which that dream started.

      * For some reason my best results with dream recall seems to be afternoon naps. however the naps kind of last about 4 hours. Maybe my circcadian rhythm is messed up, I don't know.

I love naps. I always have great dreams during naps. Once you stabilized and had the dream feeling pretty good, you probably needed to go engage in some dream activity. When you notice and/or think about your actual body, it creates a connection to it. This can often wake you up from the dream. The best way to avoid this, is by engaging in some sort of dream activity. Plus, this was only your second lucid. Congrats on achieving lucidity and don't be discouraged by success. Control just takes some practice and the more you get used to the feeling of lucidity, the easier it will be to have quality lucids. Good luck to you and just keep at it!

When you say engage in a dream activity- that is, say, beyond rubbing my hands on things?

I know what you mean. All of my lucids have been very short. My first two were less than a minute each. Most recently I've gained lucidity in the morning after waking up to record dreams and going back to sleep.

In one dream I was able to change the scenery to some sort of school that I knew I had never been to, and then summon the DC I was trying to summon. After that though, I think it felt so realistic that my subconscious mind sort of took control of the DC and I got angry and woke up.

In my last lucid which was even longer I was at my house. It felt the strangest of all because it was exactly like my house and neighborhood except nobody was there, it was completely empty. I could tell there were no other DCs, I could just feel it. I felt incredibly agoraphobic/monophobic. I decided I needed to fly to the moon to do the lucid task of the month but as I attempted to exercise dream control and fly, but all of a sudden I felt glued to the ground, extremely heavy, and then I felt my sleeping body and woke up

I know I didn't stop to feel anything in my dream, I never do. I seem to have the opposite problem you do. I just start exploring and completely forget to try to feel or touch things. I think that you are on the right track 100%. I think we could both benefit from relaxing some.

Simple really, I believe in levels of lucidity, and at a lower level, you know it's a dream but you can't have a lot of conscious thought, as well as being instinctive, you're only just starting. Experts have those days sometimes, I'm no expert though, but I know this.

As a reference, at a higher level or when you get better, things will be as clear and stable as real life, and be able to recall things from real life, and be able to make a better, non-instinctive decision. For the first 30 or so lucids I couldn't remember real life.

Huh.... interesting, Soulnote. It's never as black and white as one would think, is it?

Everything he has said here is true. I still have dreams where I am just barely aware, some where I am aware, and then I forget... Sometimes I am aware, in some aspects, but not in others, like I know I am dreaming, but I'd better not do anything crazy, or I will get arrested. Sometimes I am aware, but the detail and clarity just sucks.

One time I was having a lucid dream. I met a nice old lady. I decided to smash every last stick of furniture in her house, because I knew she had no soul. lol
So I did this. I smashed everything in her house while she screamed. Then I lost lucidity! I suddenly felt like a monster. She screamed at me, "Why did you do this!" and I was stunned. I said, "So help me god, I DON'T KNOW!!"

I have couple experience like that too.. i even forget in a moment that i have lucid dream.. i woke up and realize that i failed again to experience lucid dream, but in a minute after i realize slowly that i got waking sleep paralysis and i feel my self floating in a darkness then fell off in my house. i fully realize that i dream.

But my question is...... I wake up after non-rem so that i forget my lucid dream. My level of lucidity is very low.

How is the way to Gain and stabilize my awarness in dream?? It is so frustated

Instead of immediately going on to do your goals, take a bit to fully comprehend everything and gather your mind.

I've had as similar experience with multiple, short, micro lucids in one night. Trying to WILD I ended up DILDing. Only mild control, mild consciousness, would wake up (real awakenings) then immediately go back to sleep into another micro lucid. In each one I exerted some control. In one I actually turned to a DC and told him "I have to take control of the dream. Help me out." I was having trouble moving consciously so he came over and I leaned on his shoulder, using the DC to sort of pull me around this room. As we walked around the room I began mentally moving or creating furniture until the room was a vibrant, if not ghetto looking market place filled with shoppers and sellers. I don't know why it was thus, I suppose in my dream, the setting was empty flea market and I just filled in the blanks. I did notice as I walked around with the DC the dream became clearer, more stable, but then I slipped back into being non-lucid and again awoke shortly after. Each dream couldn't have lasted more than 3-5 min, with the lucidity in each lasting only moments or at max maybe 2 minutes.
Still fuzzy sometimes too. I don't know.

Thoughts? How to keep sleeping, maintain a stronger dream presence, and keep little things like consciousness?
