      What if...? Madness?

What if you were in a LD and it seemed to last forever... suddenly you get bored, you want to wake up to remember it all, write it down and come tell the people here at DVs what happened. You try to wake up... except you can't. You open your eyes, you're in your room, you get outta bed, but that room just isn't right! False awakening. No worries, next time you'll just wake up... but you don't. Its one F/A after the other. You just can't wake up!

      What would you do then?

I used to experience this as a teenager (many eons ago.) This sounds like sleep paralysis and is perfectly normal. Just relax and go with the flow of events. Or, try directing the dream in other directions. Eventually you will wake up. Forcing it would most likely bring more frustration.

MarthaM, I think he meant how it would be if you truly couldn't wake up at all, being stuck in a dream forever.

If you haven't already, you should certainly watch "Waking Life". This scenario is addressed, along with a freat deal of philosophy and conjecture.

      I would absolutely love it!

I just hope (before I die) they perfect some sort of Lucid Life support machine that they can hook up to my cryogenically frozen head and keep me in a constanst state of lucidity.

...sort of on line with what happened in Vanilla Sky.

I used to think about that.
= There are much more outcomes then just madness.
The most obvious way of dealing with pointless existence is just becoming a DC and going with the flow. Pretty much abandoning all your knowledge for the peace of mind.
Another possible solution is an attempt to end one's existence.
The idea I like the most is to create a purpose in your existence...

IMO, nobody is prepared to spend an eternity in a lucid dream....

If this happened, I would completely go along with it. Screw going mad over it, because eventually I am going to have to wake up or someone will worry about me and come wake me up. Maybe the dream will seem like years, but that's fine, because it's not like I'm MISSING anything in real life.
Never stop searching for truth. In your search you may think you have found it, and perhaps you have, but if you hold on tightly to a single thread it will fray and it's greater meaning will become lost. There is always more truth stretching deep beneath the surface that promises to reveal ever greater the infinite, interwoven fabric of truth, woven in the looms of Heaven.

Well, IF my penis was suddenly two meters long, I'd have to walk on stilts so it wouldn't drag on the ground. But it is one of those 'IF's I don't think I will ever have to worry about. The 'IF' you propose is about just as likely, and so I would say that our level of concern should be about the same.

Precisely what I would do...in the begining. I'm a big thinker though, so it's possible i would go mad in my own head.

There are people who never remember their dreams. You could say they're stuck in the real world. Would you call them mad? I think I'd rather be stuck in the dream world than in reality, because if I really couldn't take it anymore I could always have the dream mimic reality.
