Lucid dreaming running in the family

Today I talked about my dreams from last night while out at a restaurant with my family. I already know both my brother and mother experience sleep paralysis like me. And today, I found out my grandmother does reality checks to see if she's dreaming and then tries to escape the dream! Wow!

That's crazy that she found that out on her own. If only we had talked about dreaming when I was young. I could've explored my dreams more. What she does is "goes up" (levitates) to check if she's dreaming then tries to wake up.

I thought it was so cool. I didn't bring up the fact that she should try to explore her dream more once she realizes she's dreaming. But I mentioned how I've done that before and then went off and flew. Except, I didn't figure out reality checks on my own <(^_^). I found them out from this site. But I've always have had very active dreams and a lot of experience with sleep paralysis. Now because of this site I know I don't have to try to wake up, but can explore my dreams and have fun.

Do any of you have families that are really active dreamers?

Besides my step-brother, no active lucid dreamers in the family. But my grandmother loves to figure her dreams out. Dream interpretation. I think it's pretty cool. I tried to talk to her about lucid dreaming though; got a weird look and a, "That's not normal, stop doing it!"

Your grandmother? Wow. That's so cool! But if she doesn't use it to lucid dream and just on useless... dream escapes? Darn, what a waste of potential...

Apparently, there are lots of people who see no better use for lucid dreaming than to just "wake up." However that can be perceived as a use. People tell stories about that one time when they lucid dreamed and they decided to wake up from the dream. I don't get it. Even many years ago, from when I remember having a few lucid dreams as a kid, I would always think to control my dream and to fly and whatnot whenever that happened. When I was young and before I heard about any of this stuff.

This is still the first time when I've heard of someone actively practicing lucid dreaming but not using it for anything, though... I mean. Why?
