Not sure if I was lucid?

      Hi all,
I'm new on this website, so I don't know if there are already threads of this. If so, I'm sorry. So I have a question. I've been trying to lucid dream for 1 year now, without any success. Last week I had a dream about me meeting a celebrity and when I was in the car going home I was like: this is a dream, I don't want to meet celebrities in dreams, I want to meet them irl. So i was trying so hard to wake up by falling backwards in the car (bc i saw inception) so that I could wake up and go meet celebrities irl. Of course I know I have no chance at all to meet celebrities irl but at that moment I thought I could. It's like I knew I was dreaming but didn't realize it. Just like the dream I had yesterday. I was sitting on a toilet and I told someone I could do that because this is a dream. But I didn't think of doing something else because I simply didn't realize??? This frustrates me so much so I decided to make a thread here, do you guys know how I can make this work and fully realize I AM dreaming and I can do other things than sitting on a toilet?

      Thanks!

You were lucid, you were just mentally hazy. The thing with dream states is, you are incredibly dumb in them, it takes time to get clear headed in a lucid dream. You'll notice that in dreams, you are in a different state of mind than in waking life. Nothing out of the ordinary surprises you (unless you train yourself to do so), you have dumb ideas and as a result, dumb things happen. When you only get lucid, this state of mind remains. You are aware that you are in a dream, but you are still dumb as fuck, the sleeping though processes remain.

This is why you got the idea to get out of a dream to meet celebrities. In my recent LD I had the idea to spawn a hospital in front of me, for some reason. Had I been completely clear-headed, I would have focused on other stuff.

That's a common doubt when beginning. The typical thing people will say is that when you have a lucid dream you will have no doubt it was a lucid dream. I had the same doubt when I started a year ago, I had a lucid dream in which I was talking with people who were biking, and I knew it was a lucid dream but somehow it didn't "shocked" me, like a normal realization of being dreaming would do, so the plot continued as I didn't know anything.

Those dreams you had are lucid dreams indeed, but you are not sure because your awareness wasn't high. As you gain experience you will have lucid dreams in which you know you're dreaming but it's not like you care, and lucid dreams in which you will not believe it's actually a dream, because the realism and the feeling of having a high awareness level and being fully conscious is beyond words. Just keep practising, don't lose motivation and try new techniques and schedules, consistence will take you whenever you want. Good luck and hope it helped!
I like destruction and reality, and one invariably leads to the other.

I'm not sure that your dream quite counts as lucid. Although you said "this is a dream" your actions were more like you weren't truly aware that you were in a dream, just that you couldn't meet celebs because you were in one. You were certainly close.
I think the clear indicator (at least for me) is when you do an RC to confirm that you are in a dream. You can do an RC automatically before actually becoming lucid, and the few times that has happened to me I have then become lucid. Most times I already know I'm lucid, and then remember to do an RC later.
There is a hazy state of semi-lucidity where you don't quite get lucid (happens to me lots!). If you've never quite got lucid before, you will definitely know when you are lucid!
If you are not sure then you probably weren't, but don't despair. Just try to remember to do an RC.

You were lucid indeed. With practice and motivation you will get tons of more lucids. It is important to have goals to accomplish during lucid dreams for you to have a stronger will in inducing more of them.

Check these out to find tasks that will help you

      • Attaining Lucidity -------------------------> Many techniques here as well as users sharing their own experience.
      • Tasks of the Month & Year ---------------> This will give you a great motivation to LD as these tasks are fun and gives you a reward for accomplishing them (and that will be an extra goal to help yourself to LD!)
      • Lucid Dares ------------------------------->This thread has a ton of lucid tasks for you to do. I have been personally adding some basic tasks to get started plus other some advanced tasks as well. Many other users are adding dares for everyone as well as making personal dares, it is lots of fun.

Best luck and let me know if you got any questions

Whether or not you were having a true lucid dream is just academic...the point is, you will have much better lucid dreams in the future if you continue. I have had dreams where I said, "well, after all, this is just a dream." But then after a second or two it registers...and I say "HEY! I AM dreaming!" and then take control of the dream and it's like then I am really there.
