Question What's more important?: Awareness or memory/recall ???

I've been trying to have all the awareness for a while now. But I feel like my definition of it might be wrong. What I'm trying to do is analyze everything and try to remember exactly what is where at what time and then try to close myself on where everything was at the end of the night. But today, I tried something new: I just look around and ask myself what everything is, label it, and ask myself if it was normal to be there. I would also periodically ask myself what I was doing and what I was doing five minutes prior to that.

I don't know what exactly I'm supposed to be doing so, if someone could give me a better description of what awareness is supposed to be, I would really appreciate it. What I was doing yesterday seemed like it took a lot more work. But, what I've been doing today seems a lot more relaxing and enjoyable and like I'm able to absorb more.

Can someone please tell me if I'm doing this right?

Awareness is noticing stuff. You must notice a dream in order to even recall it.

But, simply noticing stuff in a dream isn't enough. You must also remember that the stuff you're noticing is a dream.

So, both awareness and memory are equally important.

Your new routine is what you're supposed to do. Looking around builds your awareness and asking yourself if it's normal builds your prospective memory of dreams.

Remember, though. You must do your routine at night while you're dreaming. It would be a waste to go through all this work during the day only to quit at night when you have your dreams! Continue your routine while you're falling asleep or at least do something which reminds you of your routine. This will help link your day work to your dream world.

Thanks. It's a huge relief to know that this new method of awareness is what I'm supposed to be doing. It's nowhere near as stressful as what I was doing a few days ago. It actually feels kind of peaceful.

Perfectly explained dolphin. Sageous would agree 100% I'm sure according to the fundamentals of lucid dreaming.
