I can't get a grip on my lucidity. Please help

I can become lucid, but every time I do the dream gets foggier. I don't almost wake up, it's just that the dream gets super bright, like the sun is in my eyes. I try to stay calm, I touch things in the dream and rub my hands together, I even formulated a plan in my last lucid dream and I still couldn't concentrate. Also I feel super drowsy like I'm going to fall asleep in my dream.

What's really disappointing is that the only method I've found that works may be the method that's causing this problem. Basically, I do a WBTB by sleeping from 12 to 6:30 (I've tried 5:30 a few times and it didn't work) But, the sun rises at 7-ish, so either right in the middle of a lucid dream (btw I take a long time to fall asleep, maybe 15-20 minutes) my room gets too bright and I start waking up. I don't own a sleep mask or earplugs and my curtains allow light into my room, and no, I am not going to spend cold hard cash on anything.

Here are some other methods I've tried with no luck:

      * A mixture of WBTB, DILD, and WILD over the course of one week as told by Billybob. Didn't work.

      * CAT. Kept falling asleep and I also realized if I wake up at the same time for a whole week I will wake up at that time regardless of when my alarm is set (unless it is set earlier, obviously)

      * WILD: I can do this by accident but not when I actually want to do it, which is wierd.

      * Visualising a dream: Also happens by accident but not when I actually want it.

      * DILD: This too happens by pure chance.

*DEILD: I tried to do this but soon realized my brain is always in hyper wake-up mode as soon as I wake up, so no luck here.

I don't want to take any supplements for lucid dreaming (unless it is something "safe" like a kind of food, no drugs). Are there any other techniques besides the ones I've listed that could help me.

Sorry for the long post. Thank you for your time.

PS another method that has worked is dream incubation, but I'm usually non-lucid in the incubated dream.

Sorry to hear that you're not having much luck. Perhaps to counter the sun rising during your lucids, you can go to bed an hour earlier. See if that changes anything. For other techniques, you could give SSILD a try: http://www.dreamviews.com/induction-...eam-ssild.html

One week isn't enough time to decide if a technique isn't working for you. You need to try them out for several weeks.

You could try summoning items in the dream to help. If it's too bright, you could summon something like sunglasses to shield the light. If you're feeling drowsy, you could summon a stimulant of some sort. As for how to summon them, you can just take them out of your pocket or reach to the side and have the dream blindly hand them to you.

I've been having almost the exact same problem as you, just without the light part. In several lucids in the near past, I simply couldn't focus on anything. It basically feels like you're mentally impaired in some way, right? In my case I couldn't move very well either.

I had my most recent lucid on the night of the 1st, and that dream was so much better. The main reason I could see for it being better was the amount of sleep I got over break, and the extra nap I took on that day as well. I think that the drowsiness can be simply fixed by getting more rest. At least that's what seemed to work for me!

while in a lucid i dont have the problems like you have but when you think its because of the light:

i put a second pillow on my head because it sometimes gets light in my room too and my roommates are pretty noisy. it works like a charm. its a little darker and quiet and i actually got pretty often lucid while doing so maybe because its unfamiliar or warmer or something? whatever the reason is and if its just that i can fall asleep again: it works and i get lucid

(btw a sleeping mask is not expensive (i saw one for 3€ on amazon...) but yea i wouldnt buy one too i have another pillow xD)

Block out the sunlight. You don't have to spend hard cash, just tape some newspaper or something over the window or plain black tape. Remember to relax and observe your surroundings when lucid. Don't rush at first.. 15-30 minutes to fall asleep is normal. I can take up to an hour with my thoughts racing in my head. It's best to just not think about much, let whatever thoughts or images form on their own. I find WILD is best performed when re-entering a dream, visualize what you just encountered or try a mantra if you want to start fresh in a new surrounding.
