      Am I becoming closer to lucid dreaming?

      The other day I tried FILD and I woke up 4 hrs after sleep and when I tried FILD with my eyes closed, I saw flashing purple lights and could feel my room becoming lighter. I did an RC after that and then I woke up after. I'm not sure what this means. Lately since then my dreams are much more vivid and I can recall pretty well. Does this mean I am getting closer?

      Yes, sounds like you are getting closer to LD. Are you keeping a Dream journal and recoding all dreams daily?

      Yea I keep them down in a journal. I'm gonna try FILD again but does the first part about the lights mean anything?

      Also is 7hrs after sleep too late to fry FILD?

      Not really, other than that you were close to falling asleep, and your dream. What you were witnessing was probably hypnagogic imagery (HI), which is little more than a bit of mental noise your brain emits as you teeter on the edge of sleep. I suggest that you don't pay too much attention to that stuff, because it might distract you from reaching your real goal, which is the dream lying just around the corner.

      Also, you might want to hold off on doing RC's until you are in an actual dream (you'll know it when you are there); doing one before then will break your focus and tend to just wake you up.

      Not too late at all, as long as you are able to get back to sleep.

      Did you see that stuff I said about my room? Overall do you think I'm getting closer?

      ^^ Sure, I've seen stuff like that, as have many people who practice WILD's regularly (FILD is WILD technique, BTW). You will likely witness more noise in the future, too... but try your best not to pay too much attention, or else you might make that noise more important than the dream that is your actual goal.

      And yes, I do think you are getting closer!

      When do you try FILD after waking up? Is it exactly when you go back to bed or do you wait until you are about to sleep? I tried waiting before I fell asleep but I ended up sleeping before I could try FIlD. Also when I woke up I couldn't recall my dreams. But I did wake up earlier before my alarm for FILD was set, so maybe that had something to do with it

      ^^ I was hoping that someone who actually practices FILD would help you out here, but I guess not... so:

      I believe that you are supposed to wait until you are just about to fall asleep before starting your FILD technique. This is not particularly easy to do (usually what you described above is what happens), but if you give it some practice -- and are willing to accept a few failures -- you should eventually be able to notice when you are on the edge of sleep.

      Out of the question, but I think HI is amazing... I've found myself going through some pretty deep stuff there, It feels like taking all filters and leashes of the mind and letting it roam free!

      But yeah, since your goal is dreaming just let it pass by!

      The lighter part sounds interesting, I think that maybe YOU were becoming lighter and not the room itself. I will go deeper here, but I believe it is due to the loosening of the energy body, this means you were close to AP or LD! Keep it up!

      Ok guys with FILd, I have an issue. When I get back to bed, I end up falling asleep before I try FILD. Is there anyway to keep this from happening. Should I read my dream journal before sleeping normally or after I wake up again and try to sleep?

      If you're too tired to try FILD, then maybe you can do a very quick WBTB so that you're not going to fall asleep quickly.

      The thing is that I'm not too tired, its that I try to wait until I feel like that I'll fall asleep and I end up sleeping before trying

      Ok guys when I wake up, I usually go to the bathroom right after and I typically rinse myself a little with water cuz I have to pray, like an ablution. Could that have something to do with my low sucess rate?
