You were almost there. A good thing to know is that we visualize in the same area of the brain as when we dream.... the secondary visual cortex. This is not theory but fact. I suggest this is information we lucid dreamers can use to our benefit. |

I ALMOST did it. I woke up at 3am (after 6 hrs of sleep), stayed awake for about half an hour, and kept my mind awake while my body was tired. I remember seeing white flashes and hearing a guy laughing and tried to imagine it being a guy I know. I heard the familiar buzzing noise of SP. I kept telling myself to keep calm and that I was dreaming (even though I wasn't in a dream scene yet). It kept fading out, and then coming back to as if it was trying again. It happened about 4 or 5 times times before it felt like my mind "gave up". I'm going to try this again because something about it seemed to work. Oh and when I was trying to go back to sleep, I used the mantra, "I am going to be lucid dreaming in a few minutes". And during the time I was awake for the 30 min, I was on DV, so my mind was definitely on LDing. Was I getting close? If so, what can I do to just make it happen? |

You were close. Those sounds were hypnagogic hallucinations. They happen as you moving from NREM to REM. Going in and out of it, even falling asleep for a few seconds and then coming back to is actually very good. That's when you hope that next time you 'dip under' you do so with retaining your awareness and get a lucid. |

I tried again last night with similar results, just no HH. Except this time I woke up at 6am. I kept falling in and out of sleep with the mantra of, "I'm dreaming". There were a couple times where I had the sensation of flying very fast (and I had actually read that sensations thread that night). But I didn't hear anything or get any vibrations like normal. |

You did experience HH it was just a tactile hallucination rather than visual |
