      Lucid Dreaming by accident?

To start off this has happened to me twice and it is always a strange scary feeling. I experience this the first time when I was taking a nap mid day, I had woken up but I was aware I was dreaming. I was laying in my bed looking at my room not able to move and even though it was a normal afternoon in my room nothing unusual I felt scared and began to freak out and then I woke up. Last night I was having a dream about snakes (my second one this week) and towards the end of the dream I had realized I was dreaming and the next thing I knew I was sitting up in my bed still dreaming but looking at my normal room and I don't know why but I just began to yell no. It was a perfectly normal setting just as before but for some unknown reason I was scared. I'm curious as to what this is and if anyone can give me some insight to why I am so afraid of it even though I am not seeing anything scary it's just me in my room like normal nothing unusual. Thanks a lot!

I've had lucid dreams before I knew the word for it, mostly when I was upset that I couldn't buy something (which frequently doesn't exist outside the dream) because I was dreaming. So yes, it's not unheard of to lucid dream without trying. I'm not sure I'd call it an "accident" though.

What you're experiencing is Xenophobia, the fear of anything that is beyond one's comfort zone.

It's just like anything else new that you've done that you might have been uncomfortable with at first, like jumping off the high dive at a pool, riding a roller coaster, flying on a plane, driving a car, ect. Once you become more comfortable with lucid dreaming, this fear will wear off in the same way.

Finding yourself in an alternate reality can be unnerving if you didnt ask for it, as you may wonder "am I stuck here?" or "how do I get back?" Once you realize it is actually more difficult to preserve it and discover the fun enjoying it while it lasts, your fear may disappear. Dreams are normal...being aware not so much, but just as safe.

Are you sure it was LD? Because for me it sounds more like a sleep paralysis. So you could be scared by that. I don't know, I had LD "by accident" and it was nothing scary in this, however when I started to feel like paralysis can come to me and that vibrations was around my body - then I freak out few times. But it shouldn't be scary really, it's just different sense. Our mind is on different frequency. Everything in your dream is you. No one can hurt you there. So just give your some time and keep trying!

I have thought it was more on the lines of sleep paralysis before. I was just wondering if it could be considered on the road to lucid dreaming just because I was well aware that I was dreaming both times! Thank you for the input! Means a lot!!
