Hi everyone, |

Yes, we can definitely hear sounds from real life in our lucid dreams. This is a defense mechanism which allows us to sense an emergency occurring in waking life while we're dreaming so we can wake up to protect ourselves if needed. This is why external lucid dreaming aids are able to use sound and/or lights to alert us that we're dreaming. |

Thanks for the response Dolphin. I'm thinking of using a unique external sound as a lucid dreaming aid, but with a twist. Instead of alerting the dreamer that they are dreaming, I'd like them to perform a specific sequence of eye movements. I'm wondering if the unique sound is repeatedly listened to during the day and paired with performing the eye movements, when the tone is played during REM sleep through headphones hopefully the dreamer will hear it and remember to perform those same eye movements in-dream. Do you think advanced lucid dreamers may be able to do something like this? |

Yes, I think that advanced lucid dreamers would be able to do this. |
