      The Blind dreaming

I was just wondering if you are blind can you have dreams? Im meaning if you are born blind. I could see a person that turned blind having dreams because they have images stored in there brain. What do you think?

Well, I imagine I could find a concrete answer fairly quickly through the wonders of Google, but I'll just go ahead and give my opinion first.

I think that of course blind people dream. After all, it's their eyes that are messed up, not the part of the brain responsible for dreams (if we even know where that is). Furthermore, in dreams we have use of all our available senses, not just sight. Sometimes, due to dream recollection being hazy at best, we might only have clear memories of what we saw in a dream, but that's because sight is the average person's "dominant" sense, followed probably by hearing, depending on the person. When a blind person recalls a dream, I'm sure that it consists of the sounds and smells they experienced, and what they were able to touch.

Blind people dream. They dream of sounds, smells, and touch. Some may even see patterns, ebacse in our dreams we can have extra-sences. Now, what woudl be interesitng is a Blind person having a Lucid dream. What woudl you do? Feel and hear what eevr you wanted. I Lucid dream for mostly the visuals. I suppose Blind people coudl just hear music and such.

INTERESTING! I knew a person who was born blind and he said when he dreamt, he felt like it was any ordinary day. Once in a while, his sensory perception would increase and he would call those vivid dreams. Even so, he'd never 'see' images nor colors...but he could identify his surroundings.

Now imagine a person fully deprived of Seeing, Hearing, Touching plus incapable of smelling, as well as tasting...how would that person dream, much less Lucid Dream?
Do you seriously think that blood is the only thing in this world that is colored red?

If a person was deprived of all senses then they would be pretty much brain dead. It may sound harsh I guess but if I had no senses whatsoever I would feel like I'm in some sort of void. You wouldn't be able to tell if you were awake or sleeping?

I think that would be the least of their worries. If someone was born without the ability to receive any sensory input whatsoever, their brain would basically never develop, and they would be a vegetable. So no, not only would that person not dream, they would be unable to function on any level.

Or if you're referring to someone who was born with these senses, but has somehow been deprived of all of them, I believe that's known as a coma. I really don't know whether or not it's believed to be possible to dream while in a coma.

Exactly, it is practically never being alive, but only in the instance where all senses are absent for birth.

I have created a thread which deals more with the other senses and asks some questions.
