Hi All! I have only had one or two LDs, and that was some years ago. I am returning with more diligence! Keep in mind, I am just theorizing here, I am no expert....
I am absorbing as much info as I can (books, podcasts, videos, etc) to saturate my thoughts with LD, hoping it will influence my ability to become lucid. A dominant element in these sources seems to be a sort of custom personal mind-game with one's preconceived fears and expectations about what can and can't happen in their LDs. There don't seem to truly be a lot of absolute/universal results to given actions in our dream worlds, if any at all, only ones we have subscribed to and expect. Limitations and results seem self-imposed or tied to our personal cultures and personalities. It seems the bottom line is that LDs are completely safe, excluding perhaps to those with certain psychological conditions.
So, my apprehension, as suggested in the title, is exposing myself to other people's personal expectations which may limit my experience. Some people bring with them a great and encouraging sense of freedom and liberation, while others may convincingly dispense their own fears and limitations as if they are absolute... and then we may absorb those, which may limit or negatively affect our experiences with LDs.
I don't even want to reference a real statement I have read in fear of infecting someone's expectations, so I will invent an unlikely and preposterous one as an example. "Never manifest and consume a pickle ice cream sundae in an LD because a swarm of noogie-monsters will pigpile on you and wake you up!! It happened to me, be warned!!!" If we replaced the sundae with something more likely, what are the chances that some people will absorb this into their person catalog of expectations and limit their potentials in LDs?
