Thought of a new RC

Make a fist, then open it back and close in the opposite direction. I have on occasion tried to think of a RC that can be performed in public without attracting attention. In public I would feel self conscious if I were to try and pinch my nose or stick my finger threw the other hand. So I was thinking it wouldn’t be too obvious to close your hand in a fist and then open it back as to close it in the opposite direction. In a dream it may work. Wile awake it might appear that you are stretching and increasing circulation. So someone may think you have arthritis or something. They might think you’re a Waco if you keep trying to stick your finger threw the other hand. Lol Let me know if it works for anyone.

It was pointed out to me today, when I was objecting that Reality Checks were needlessly silly inventions of New Age Gurus intent upon adding additional chapters to otherwise too thin books, and Work Shop Groups to otherwise thinly planned Weekend Seminars, that Reality Checks were good for proving to people who had already gone Lucid that they were Lucid already. So, you are already Lucid and wish to play around with something in order to prove it to yourself. Perhaps you should simply exercise your discernment. A great many people simply know they are Lucid when they are lucid. It is like the flick of a switch.

yeah, people know it, but it is best to perform an RC, it just makes it more easy to fly and stuff.

I agree with Leo that whenever I do a reality check, I'm fairly certain that I'm dreaming. However, the reality checks are a failsafe just in case I may be wrong and have the urge to jump out of a window. Also, used repeatedly, they can keep you from losing lucidity in a dream as well. I had a dream this morning that was about LDing in detail but I did not become aware it was a dream at the time. It was a lengthily dream that went into detail with me explaining to a relative of mine what foods were good for LDing etc. Also there where doctors involved and I had 4 prescriptions that the doctors told me were for a drug for inducing LDs. The prescriptions had my name spelled incorrectly which happens in real life a lot. The drugs name Started with a J and ended with n.(J**n). Like I said it was a long dream and I remember it in detail only not once did I become lucid to it being a dream. If I had of performed a habitual RC the dream may have turned out lucid. No?

I have only ever become Lucid once, and that was triggered by an RC. Two RCs, in fact. By the way, dreamtamer: the finger through hand one only really attracts the attention of the public if it works. ^_^

In an insane asylum one might not give a second thought to this repeated act. The only thing that comes close to normal behavior might be a ballgame coach calling the play.

Come on, Leo. I'm only going to give you a hard time on this one, because I believe you're an intelligent man. I know you have a bit of a tendency to be an elitist, through probably no malice of your own, but you have to see that a reality check isn't completely useless if you haven't yet realized how to recognize lucidity at will. I mean, thats like telling a martial arts student that its cheating to train by practicing his moves in his dreams. Sure it may not be the technique YOU used (perhaps you feel you're too good for it? Again, I'm not slinging insults, I'm honestly taking a guess at this one) but to say that someone checking reality while they are awake, to get into the habit of doing it even in their dreams is silly, or even to suggest that its young enough to be called New-Age, is ridiculous. You Have to be more far-sighted than that. No reason to sugar coat it. I Know you are. A lot of things make their way into your dreams, even when you are not sure you are dreaming. (Maybe it didn't happen to You, but who are You? Certainly no one to say that your methods of realizing lucidity are the status quo.) Questioning whether or not you are dreaming is NOT lucidity. You know this, so I think you can come off this one. A lot of people...a Lot of people (too many for you to Not know this to be true) begin to Question whether or not they are dreaming, and then obliviously fall back into the dream itself, before reaching lucidity. There are dream journals all over this site that could attest to this. To make doing a reality check a knee-jerk reaction to questioning lucidity, is obviously going to gather easier results. It may not lead up to your standard, but to insult it is nothing but arrogance, no?

Is there any reason that you have to sound like a MIT graduate when you post ? It's not too hard to understand, it's just a bit irritating at most, but it makes my mind confused as of the reason. Don't take it as an offence. Doing reality checks in real-life makes you do it in your dream - And I wouldn't want to do something silly in real-life because I didn't do a reality check.

I really don't see how discretely prodding the palm of your hand looks like anything but normal fidgeting. I don't find it hard at all to do discrete RCs. I like nose RCs and I just pretend my nose is itchy and do it.
