      Dreaming about dreaming?

A few nights ago I had a dream about waking up from a dream I was having and recording it in my dream journal then going back to sleep.

Last night I dreamt a dream in which I was aware that it was a dream, but I had no control. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a lucid dream because I don't recall having any conscious control. I was basically just watching myself have a dream in which I was aware.

What do you make of this? Am I doing something wrong to be having dreams about dreaming or being aware of a dream?

For what it's worth, as far as I know, I never had a lucid dream yet in which I'm consciously aware and actually using my own mind to decide what to do next in the dream.

Edit -- Come to think of it, I remember dreaming about a bumblebee flying up the back of my shirt in a dream last night. But I told myself to ignore it because it's just a dream and it can't really harm me. It flew around for a bit then stung me in the back then I woke up and jump half way across my bed!

So another question, why did I casually accept that I was dreaming? Do you think I was still dreaming about being aware but not actually aware? I imagine if I was actually lucid I would've started talking to the bee, then did some lucid experiments (especially a reality check)...

If you were aware that you were dreaming, then it was a lucid dream. Dream control is a separate issue.

You just have to train yourself to take control once you realize that it's a dream. Drill it into your head that the dream world is yours to manipulate as you please, so that once you realize you are dreaming, you become omnipotent. I would suggest using the MILD method to help with this -- repeat something to yourself as you are trying to fall asleep, such as "I will take control of my dream as soon as I become lucid", or something along those lines.
