      Reality checks....

I have a question about these things, reality checks, that is. I know I'm supposed to do them in my real life yadda yadda yadda, but when I am dreaming, am I supposed to just hopefully do a reality check, because it's part of my habit, and THEN I realize I'm dreaming? Or is it the other way around. Do I have to realize I'm dreaming first then reality check to comfirm it.

I'm asking this because I thought the first way I mentioned was correct, but I've heard people do it the second way I mentioned.

      Thanks in advance. =D

First you think (possibly after something weird or unusual happens) "hey, I'm DEFINITELY dreaming" and then you should do a reality check to confirm. If you wouldn't have even heard of reality checks and wouldn't have that habit you couldn't confirm it, and you could lose the lucidity, because you may not be 110% sure about it.

For me, the second way is the only one that works. If I don't already suspect that I'm dreaming, I never do RCs in my dreams. Maybe I just never practiced them enough in real life for it to become a habit, but I did really try for a while.

As with most dream-related things, I believe each person is different, and you just have to find what works best for you.

You should train yourself to do reality checks whenever something strange happens or when you see a dream sign. I like to do reality checks when strange things happen because strange things tend to happen a lot in my dreams, but not so much in waking life.

You know that you have gained the habit of doing reality checks when the first thing that comes into your head when you see something even slightly peculiar is "reality check!"

Here's a snippet from my DILD (Dream-Initiated Lucid Dream) that I had a while back:

I was lying in bed trying to fall asleep when a flash of lightning reflects on my bed. I get up and open the window blinds and see heavy rainfall. I look up in the sky and see a beautiful array of stars. I keep the blinds open so I can watch the stars while I try to sleep. While lying down I happen to look at my digital clock and it read simply "0." I think, that's odd, is it possible that I am dreaming? A reality check proves true.

I then became lucid, aware that I was in a dream.

its a little of both for me. In one dream after the two hot girls were begging for my number I think I realized I was in a dream because I remember crosing my fingers hoping it was real life as I did my reality check, it was a dream lol.

But another time for some reason I kept on looking at the clock wanting it to be 11:59 (it was11:50 at the time) but it stayed the same each time, I checked once more and it read 11:87, I was like merr? Then I realized I was dreaming!
I can't say I really know anything about what you're talkinga bout , but I said plausible because of that incredibly cool blind spot trick .
